Talk:King Island (Tasmania)

Population edit

The population figure added refers to the King Island Council area. Technically, I don't think there is a difference - I'm not aware of any other populated islands that are part of the Council area - but I thought it was worth commenting on here, in case anyone else knew otherwise. (Compare to Flinders Council, which is certainly larger than just Flinders Island). -- Chuq 01:07, 5 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The map is upside down

Locator map edit

(I have left the above comment in place. It is not by me.) The map is not (now) upside down. It is, however, incorrect. King Island is considerably farther west in relation to the rest of Tasmania than shown. You only need to check one of the online global map services to see this. The island is often depicted as being roughly where located on this map even in Tasmania (as, for example, on the masthead of the Launceston Examiner), presumably because it allows all of Tasmania's territory to be shown more compactly. This might explain how it could even end up there "officially", as on this map apparently sourced from a local government authority. (It wouldn't be be so bad if King Island were shown inside a rectangle.) As one of the primary purposes of this map is, I would have thought, to locate the island in relation to its neighboring land masses, this error is particularly unfortunate. You are correct the location map is useless. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:49, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
You're right, and unfortunately I think I did the map in the first place :-/ It was part of a series of LGA locator maps so I wasn't particularly paying attention to King Island when I was doing them. I will update it with a correct version. -- Chuq (talk) 02:56, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've fixed the map up - the image is looking a bit skewed to me but that may be a caching issue. Now the issue is do I bother fixing the other 28 LGA maps, or replace them with SVG versions... -- Chuq (talk) 05:07, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
The info box is squashing the map sideways. Your modified map looks OK. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:24, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
