  • I'm going to start this review and try to finish it by the end of the week, as time permits! Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 23:34, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Initial comments edit

Compiling these first-day comments in my run through the article. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 00:04, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Nice4What: Replied to all, thanks a ton and can't wait for the rest so the article can pass sometime this week! Hope we can finish this before Jesus is King comes out haha. --Kyle Peake (talk) 07:01, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Kyle Peake: Going through a second time again. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 19:11, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lead edit

  • In the lead, I don't believe the line It was released on June 8, 2018, by GOOD Music, distributed by Def Jam Recordings. is gramatically correct.
      Done fine now?
I was believing something more like "It was released on June 8, 2018 through GOOD Music and distributed by Def Jam Recordings".
      Done
  • Is my recently added sentence about lyrics fine in the lead?

Background and recording edit

  • Seems that André 3000's contributions are highlighted too heavily. His work on PP&DS and TLOP is unrelated to his production on KSG from what I know.
Not done as it gives background on why he appeared on the album?
Hm. Not sure if his features on PP&DS and TLOP are the reasons why he appeared on the album though. Same reason why the section doesn't delve into Yasiin Bey's recording history with both artists, or Pusha T's (beyond Daytona).
      Done
  • Caroline Shaw is also a vocalist on "No Mistakes" alongside Wilson and Kid Cudi.
Done though used two sources as only Tidal mentions her as a producer though Billboard is a RS that mentions the others
Find a different source other than that Billboard article (ref 20). That article reflects the initial credits that was missing a lot of contributors. I notice that it doesn't have Aubrey Graham as a songwriter for "Yikes" or Irv Gotti and 7 Aurelius as producers on "Violent Crimes", for example.
There's loads of sources which are mixed in accuracy, do you know where I can find a proper one yourself?
If you're citing credits and features, I believe the liner notes or Tidal credits would be fine.
      Done
  • No need to individually mention Kanye's features on Nasir, Daytona, or K.T.S.E. as it doesn't add any context to the recording of this album. Could be condensed into a one sentence mention that he executive produced, produced, and provided guest vocals for each of these.
Not done as he worked on those albums during the sessions so it is worth noting which songs he was on as it's only one sentence each
The article is about Kids See Ghosts though, not the Wyoming Sessions. In my opinion, mentioning each feature is an unnecessary detail and a bit off-topic.
    @Nice4What: Look fine now? --Kyle Peake (talk) 21:50, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Looking better. I would put the information after the sentence "West returned to Wyoming two months later for the recording of then-upcoming albums", since explaining all of West's contributions to the set of five albums may be more useful when introducing them / explaining what the Wyoming Sessions are.
      Done

Themes and lyrics edit

  • Bipolar disorder is first mentioned in the "Themes and lyrics" subsection but there's no mention of West's lyrics on the disorder in Ye or how the disorder was related to his November 2016 hospitalization. I would look into incorporate this to the "Background and recording" section.
      Done
Marked as done, but do you mind pointing out what you added?
"The album's mental health references include more about rising from the state than those on West's previous album Ye.[21]"

Release and promotion edit

  • It's worth mentioning that the Dexter Navy film never materialized.
Not done you are correct but no source mentions this after searching Google hard
Tried looking for sources as well and couldn't find anything. I would suggest maybe rephrasing the sentence to indicate that a film was planned.
      Done if that's fine now?
    Yes.
  • I believe that "Devil's Watchin'" was renamed to "Fire" but I'm not sure. It may not actually be a scrapped track.
Not done searched this and found no result
  • The NME article states that the album was intended to be released through Wicked Awesome, but it doesn't say where they got that information. It could just be speculation based on the fact that it was a Kid Cudi album. I'd try to find another reliable source verifying this, but otherwise removing this info.
Done after I could only find one source
  • You may want to link to the Sunday Service article of give a brief explanation on what it is and how Cudi participated in the cover of "Reborn".
      Done
  • a follow up to Kids See Ghosts 2 → "a follow up to Kids See Ghosts". There can't be a follow-up to KSG2 if that album doesn't exist yet.
      Done typo haha

Artwork and title edit

  • I would suggest adding commentary/criticism of the album cover if possible to broaden the scope of this subsection. Without this, I don't believe the usage of the full cover art would merit fair use.
Done thanks for such an amazing idea! Should I add a sentence to the lead reading "The work received praise, with it being noted for the appearance standing out." or something like that as it is called "eye-catching", "spooky" and "creepy"?
Are you taking about the lead of the article or the subsection?
Article's lead, look good now in there?
I would replace "The work" with "The cover art" or something similar so it's not confused for the album itself. Otherwise, good work.
      Done with a slight alteration

Critical reception edit

  • In the 411Mania review, link to LSD article for those unfamiliar with the drug.
      Done

Track listing edit

  • If the samples are officially included in the liner notes, they don't require external verification.
Done apart from for ones which are not included

Trying to wrap up this review. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 20:32, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Nice4What: Don't know how to fix 6a but the article can pass 6b now, right? --Kyle Peake (talk) 21:20, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Kyle Peake: The samples for "Freeee" and "Cudi Montage" need to be trimmed to pass, or else they violate WP:SAMPLE. And yes, I believe the article passes 6b but I would still suggest adding timed text (subtitles) to the audio files. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 21:23, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
How do you add subtitles and also how do you trim files? --Kyle Peake (talk) 21:41, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
An external program such as QuickTime Player + VLC would be used to trim the audio files. As for adding timed text, you click on the closed caption ([cc]) button and then "Add subtitles". If choosing the file for "Reborn" as an example, you'll be lead to create the English-language file TimedText:Reborn.ogg.en.srt. It's easy to understand how to add the times properly by basing the file on others (such as TimedText:Charli XCX, Christine and the Queens - Gone.ogg.en.srt, which I recently created for the article Charli (album)). Again, adding timed text doesn't appear to be necessary to pass GA status. Let me know if you need anymore help! Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 21:56, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Created "Reborn" text for a starter. Look alright? Also, I have cropped the files on my computer but how does uploading work with free use or whatever? --Kyle Peake (talk) 05:51, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The file has to be in .ogg format to overwrite a previous upload. Then, go to the file page (let's take File:Reborn.ogg for example) and go to the "File history". You'll see "Upload a new version of this file" and after that, all should be good to go. Also, the lyrics for "Reborn" look good though some of the timing is a half-second off. 👍 I appreciate the work you've put in to fix the audio files. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 14:12, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Nice4What: Have now overwritten the files for "Freeee" and "Montage", so I beleive this can pass 6a as "Reborn" isn't copyright infringement. I'll add text to the files, does the bit on "Reborn" need fixing as it's slightly out or is that fine? --Kyle Peake (talk) 14:33, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Kyle Peake: Take out the mention of Cudi's vocals from the "Cudi Montage" caption since he is not heard in the sample. 6a should pass. I'll go through the references tonight and hopefully be able to give an overall assessment. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 17:53, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Nice4What: Will be able to fix the sample texts within a day or two, after tonight if there's no major issues following your assessment could this be placed on hold, logically? --Kyle Peake (talk) 21:27, 25 September 2019 (UTC) Edit: it's past the designated time by quite a bit and you haven't through the refs yet, I'll expect tonight as you said "hopefully." --Kyle Peake (talk) 20:06, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Kyle Peake: Sorry for taking the extra time, all should be good to go. Congratulations. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 20:23, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Nice4What: It's fine since we've passed this now! Will still add the captions though. --Kyle Peake (talk) 21:25, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Rate Attribute Review Comment
1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. No further comments.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. No further comments.
2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
2c. it contains no original research.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. No further comments.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. No further comments.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). Too much detail on the Wyoming Sessions, should stay on topic particularly to projects that features both West's and Kid Cudi's contributions. No further comments.
  4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. No further comments.
  5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. Album has been out for over a year, no edit warring seen in any recent time.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. Samples of "Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2)" and "Cudi Montage" both exceed 10% of the song's length (should only be up to 20 seconds and 19 seconds, respectively). No further comments.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. Would suggest adding timed text to the sample files.
  7. Overall assessment.
