Length of Golden Hind edit

Our article on the Golden Hind gives its length as 36.5 metres. I'm changin the claim to '9 metres longer' rather than 'twice as long'. Lisiate 23:41, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problem with title edit

Shouldn't it just be 'Solar boat'? And shouldn't the article point out it isn't the only one?

Article's original title was Khufu ship before it was moved without consultation -- to call it a solar ship possibly implies an assumption about its purpose which may not be accurate. I recommend restoring original title. --mervyn (talk) 21:25, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I Apologize for changing the title without permission, i didnot know that i needed permission, i apologize again.--Ashashyou (talk) 06:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

As regard the currant name of the ship, it is no doubt related to King Khoufu, and it is related to the ancient Egyptian believes which worshipped the sun, whatever was the purpuse of the ship (or boat or Barque) it was surely related to the ancient Egyptians Believes. Also it is known as the solar ship of King Khoufu, because there are many other solar ship in Giza and other places. The museum that keep the ship is called the Solar Ship museum.--Ashashyou (talk) 06:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It should reflect the most common name, and as I said, there is more than one, is this supposed to be only about a specific one and if so then indeed it does have to reflect the name of that one as opposed to a generic name for the ships in the 5 pits. Split off other ships edit

This article is nominally about the Khufu ship, the list of other ships should really be a separate article, with a summary of this article in it. Solar ships of Ancient Egypt and Ancient Egyptian solar ships are possible titles, or List of ships of Ancient Egypt -- 70.24.247.127 (talk) 09:23, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Agree.--Ashashyou (talk) 12:01, 25 December 2012 (UTC) Done--Ashashyou (talk) 13:14, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Question about this discussion, Ashashyou has done a good job creating and populating Ancient Egyptian solar ships. Is this discussion now about whether to leave the current article as-is or removing the current section altogether and leaving a link to the new Ancient Egyptian solar ships article (which, imho, would leave the current article more of a stub unless it could be expanded. Thanks. Wolfhound668 (talk) 13:49, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since Ashashyou has created the article, then it should be removed from this article, since it is only tangentially related to this article. Ashashyou should procedurally have removed the section on creation of the new article. -- 65.92.180.225 (talk) 04:55, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Felucca? edit

This article refers to the item under discussion as a ship, a vessel, and most often, a boat. However, the 3rd paragraph of the "Function" section uses the term "felucca" to describe it. A felucca is a small, much more modern sail equipped boat that resembles the Khufu boat only vaguely. I suggest this wording be removed. Gcronau (talk) 00:18, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

After 4 years, no one made an objection to this, so I changed 4 uses of the term "felucca" to "boat". Rational: The title of this article is "Khufu ship", not felucca. The Egyptians themselves call the structure the boat is housed in "The Khufu Boat Museum", not felucca. The use of the term felucca seems to come from a cut&paste of text from a single source which is currently a dead link that is stored on archive.org.

A felucca is a modern river/fresh water sail boat used in the eastern med. Greece, Egypt, Lebanon, etc. The Khufu boat has no masts and no provisions for sails. It's also shaped much differently from a modern felucca. About the only thing the Khufu boat and a felucca have in common is that they're designed to float on water and transport people. Breach of copyright. edit

I've just removed a paragraph added by an IP yesterday, since it was copy-pasted from the source it cites, in breach of copyright. [1] The source seems badly-translated, and doesn't really make a lot of sense, so I've not tried to paraphrase it. 86.133.149.185 (talk) 17:07, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
