Talk:Kendal and Windermere Railway

Latest comment: 12 years ago by Ned lad

I am not a railway historian but my father was a British Rail ticket agent in Ambleside so I had/have fair knowledge of the services that ran at that time and I knew the line intimately in the late 50's through to the 70's. There are some serious inaccuracies in the article as it stands.

In 1966 there were through trains still originating from Windermere including The Lakes Express and a portion of The Pines Express (for Bournemouth). No trains shuttled to Oxenholme and most went at least as far as Preston. During the 70' and 80's the service gradually reduced to a Windermere Lancaster shuttle and finally Windermere Oxenholme shuttle when the branch was operated as single tarck. This was some time before the second track was eventually lifted. Ned lad (talk) 07:55, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
