Spelling of Keelung

The city officially spells its name "Keelung". What Romanization system is this? It's not Wade-Giles, Hanyu Pinyin, Gwoyeu, MPS II, POJ or any other I've seen. Even on 19th century English maps it's spelled Kelung (somewhat close to the Taiwanese pronunciation), and in 1885 the French spelled it Kilung. 203.73.222.174 11:33, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

An minor edit war (or not)

User:RovingPersonalityConstruct has reverting edits back and forth. The lead is the history of the city itself not the Taiwan island. 174.89.100.11 (talk) 08:42, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

The additions to the lede are just padding. The length of the article and the history section are not so large that there's value in "condensing" it for the lede; the city's historical events have not had wide impacts nor are they neither essential to understanding its significance. Your ROC WP:POV-pushing is also showing with the ROC element of the historical summary being the start of its own paragraph. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 19:43, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Furthermore, there are verification issues. Off the top of my head:

1. Special:Diff/1148620893. The lede addition The city changed its name from Jilong to Keelung in 1875 seems to be unsupported by the article and the nearest ref ([1])
2. Special:Diff/1148620746 is also dubious, being inserted in front of a reference that does not point to a source.

I suspect that if I were to go over the edits in finer detail, I would find more instances of original research or otherwise mangled verification or integrity. The quality of the edits are decidedly suspect. The WP:BAREURLS are just icing on the cake. All of this is par for the course for you, 174.89.100.11.

On a final note, the change to With 361,082 inhabitants, the city forms a part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area with its neighboring New Taipei City and Taipei. is just asking for unnecessary maintenance work to update the population figure and is grammatically broken with its neighboring. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 20:04, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

In general, your replies tell me you fail to appreciate the gravity of my concerns. Matters of verification, original research, and NPOV are not minor issues, although your history of edits demonstrates you consider them minor. I will not be reverting your edits; too hazardous.

As for other cities, I cannot speak for the rationales that may be used there. But at least for Melbourne, that has an entire related History of Melbourne article which both the main article and the main article lede are attempting to distill. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 00:18, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
