Notability
editThe mere fact that information is related to another WP article doesn't make it notable. Nothing in WP:Summary suggests that the notability information is inapplicable for summary articles. Bongomatic (talk) 03:47, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
It's obvious that this has some value as to describing the university in question. I feel that the information is useful, and would possibly clutter the main article. If this article is deleted, then the main article section that links to this needs to be cleaned up by those who decide to delete this, and transfer the appropriate information. I wasn't aware that the standard for notability was "some value as to describing" something that has an entry (presumably something notable in itself). For example it would be of "some value as to describing" the Wingfoot Air Express (a random article) as having its registration number painted in 8" black letters on the tail fins, but it wouldn't be notable, whether expressed in the main article or a sub-article. The information that appears to me to be potentially notable in the article at hand are limited to:
- percentage of students who reside in the halls
- the fact that staff also live in the halls (somewhat more detail would be useful)
- aggregated comment on location of the dorm (e.g., X% of the rooms on campus, Y% of the rooms within X minute walk of campus)
Note that these topics are brief enough to be covered comprehensively in the main page.
On the rest of the stuff, who could possibly care other than someone choosing which dorm to apply for--someone who presumably will have more detailed information directly from the college to assist in that choice? Bongomatic (talk) 05:56, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- So let me get this straight. Category:Halls of residence in the United Kingdom, all of those articles are notable but not this one? Whatever happened to good faith? Can't we just put this to a vote so that we can have a 50 to 1 vote in favour of keeping it and we can get on with improving Wikipedia rather than waste each others time on futile "discussions"?--EchetusXe (talk) 12:27, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- in my opinion, probably most individual halls are not notable or suited to individual articles, including many of the ones in that category. At the older universities, some or even all may be of historic or architectural note individually. But the point here is whether they are as a group notable in an encyclopedic sense, and I've given my negative opinion on that at the AfD. The other group articles need looking at also. Reference the catagory mentioned above, Category:Halls of residence in the United Kingdom. If such a list is to be published, I simply feel that it is inappropriate to leave off a small, but signifigant piece of the list, in this instance, the halls of Keene University. To only include "historic" places on a catagory whose purpose is to organize such places places a damper on the small but still signifigant importance of the fact that these places DO exist. If it were a single 4-student apartment at some obscure junior college, I would agree with you. However, this is obviously not the case here. 76.160.135.161 (talk) 12:21, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
