Check this photo: File:Tent Pegging Indian Army.jpg Don't know breed of horse, but if a Marwari or Kathiawari, well, there it is... (kind of looks more like a thoroughbred to me, though...)

Also, can someone who knows this terminology check the red links beginning with the letter "K" in list of horse breeds to see if any of them are alternative names for the Kathiawari and if so, make a note of it for us? Thanks Montanabw 03:31, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Name of this breed

Aniruddhbhaidhadhal recently moved this page to Kathiyawadi horse; it's been moved back. Since Kathiawadi is the name used in the breed standard (which I've also added to the infobox), I've added it to the lead. However, I'm in no doubt that the present title of the page is the one most often used in English. Among those in India that use this name are:

• (of course) the Kathiawari Horse Breeders' Association
• the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, which reports it under that name to DAD-IS
• the National Research Centre on Equines
• the Indigenous Horse Society of India, even though it also publishes the standard with the other name
• scientists at the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources in Karnal, Haryana, and at
• the Animal Husbandry Department of the Government of Gujrat Krishni Bhawan in Ahemadabad

Height parameters

Parking until issue sorted: I really don't want to get into the conversion issue for a lot of reasons, but I really don't think height is a "feature" of a breed to an infobox-- at least not for the breeds that range between about 14.2 and 16.2 (or, if preferred, 147-167 cm or so). I also think it is absurd for the FAO to distinguish male/female height in horses because they don't have that degree of sexual divergence, certainly not in a consistent way. No clue why they do this except to compare horses to other farm animals where there is greater sexual divergence. Montanabw^(talk) 06:45, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

I really am not fond of using infobox animal breed because it has a lot of formatting parameters that don't fit the horse articles. I'd be happy to help you, although I don't read Gujarati, but I will also ping Haritosh (talk · contribs) who, according to the Gujarati-English translators list, may be better to help. In general, English sources are preferred, but in many cases there aren't enough reliable sources available in English, so thanks for your input! What is particularly important here is Verifiability. Where we have few sources and fewer yet in English translation, it can be a real challenge to verify that information is accurate; in some cases information via self-published or oral sources may be accurate but very difficult to verify. Zebra markings on the leg are a primitive pattern of leg bars (stripes), and are present in many horse breeds or equine species, particularly wild, feral or very old breeds. For example, see the left foreleg of this horse. Wasechun tashunka^HOWL_TRACK 16:29, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

add word "horse"

it is necessary to add word "horse" after "kathiawari". because the word Kathiawari represent anything from the region of Kathiawar. people from Kathiawar are called Kathiawari people, food from kathiawar is called "kathiawari thali(dish)".in same way we should use word "kathiawari horse".--Raghvendra99674010 (talk) 05:25, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

I agree with Raghvendra99674010, as it is the case with the Ardennes, Marwari and Persano horses, etc. to have the word "horse" in the title. However, an example of one that doesn't follow this trend is the Sanfratellano, which in Italian is referred more commonly as Razza di San Fratello, as it is a horse breed named after a location (so that should also be in keeping with the other pages and called "San Fratello horse").

In terms of why this article is not called "Kathiawari horse" is probably because there is no article in competition for the name, since the region is called Kathiawar, the breed of cow is called Kathiawadi (cattle), while Kathiawadi simply redirects to Kathiawar. The closest thing to a Kathiawari people article is under the title Kathi Darbar, which only refers to a certain caste, and thali is simply Thali as Wikipedia doesn't have a great many articles on regional dishes of India!
