Birth year edit

We apparently need to source Winnick's year of birth. The article currently says 1984, while previous versions had 1977 and 1978. IMDb claims 1977. I don't at this point know what is correct, or if her PR people are trying to sneak a younger age through to get more roles. Having a source that meets WP:RS would be best. -Phoenixrod (talk) 16:34, 26 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name edit

I've reverted changes to this subject's name because they were based on unreliable sources. A discussion is ongoing at the Biographies of Living Persons Noticeboard. I encourage general participation here. Cheers! JFHJr () 02:45, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to know what makes you find Toro magazine as an unreliable source? Lady Lotus (talk) 13:59, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am curious as well. Nymf talk to me 15:26, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Martial arts experience edit

In the spanish version ow Wikipedia we can reed Miss Winnick had won a silver medal whit the national taekondo team of Canada; (What championship, year, place?) She is black Belt 3 Dan on Taekondo, blak Belt 2 Dan on Karate and bodyguardo with official lisense. ¡It's not a wonder she can performed fine on the battle scenes! But no source. Do you know something more about this?

Birth name discrepancy edit

  Moved from Katheryn Winnick
 – Original "message" was posted as hidden text to the main article's 'References' section.

Katheryn's birth name is Katheryn Ann Winnicki, as she states in the Spring 2015 edition of Beauty and Wellness magazine (see page 83 of [1]). Earlier in 2013 a journalist had mis-published her name and it is now a common misconception that her birth name is otherwise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lz9w (talkcontribs) 17:18, August 19, 2016 (UTC)

As this contradicts a current source in the article, we probably need somebody to check on this to verify. In the meantime, as there is now a discrepancy/conflict in regards to her birth name, I'm going to go ahead and boldly remove it from the article for now, as per WP:BLPPRIVACY. --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:08, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
For completeness, the sources that give her birth name as "Katerena Anna Vinitska" follow...[1][2] It's worth noting that the second of these explicitly relies on the first source, and thus is of no value to this discussion. --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:11, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Her sister, tagged on K. W.'s Instagram, is Daria Winnicki-Goldsmith, which lends weight to 'Winnicki' having been their surname at least at some point; whether it was originally 'Vinitska' is unclear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.2.119.38 (talk) 16:49, 25 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

See WP:ABOUTSELF – material posted on social media about oneself cannot be used to make "claims about third parties" (e.g. K. Winnick), which would be the case here. So that can't be used either. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:52, 25 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I was more mentioning it 'for the record' by putting it on the talk page than insisting on its inclusion in the article proper anyway, so that's fine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.2.119.38 (talk) 17:42, 25 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@IJBall: Could those sources,[1][2] be considered as reliable? 110.163.134.174 (talk) 04:34, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, I can't tell. But, because there is a discrepancy, and as per WP:BLPPRIVACY, anything short of a(n English-language) interview in which Winnick clearly states – "My original family name was [XXXX]..." means that we should leave it out of the article IMO. So, regardless of what these non-English sources say, unless it's Winnick herself saying it (and in a way that's pretty widely publicized), we should not be including her "birth (sur)name". --IJBall (contribstalk) 04:39, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

New source on birth name edit

I found this article from Looper that states she went for method acting and had everyone on set call her Katerena Anna Vinitska. This YouTube video at 3:18 confirms that says she had everyone call her that. Reliable enough to change on her article? LADY LOTUSTALK 18:00, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Lady Lotus: In the article she says it's her "Ukrainian name" not her "birth name". I don't know if that would be good enough. However, her TV Guide bio does have that. I would say the two sources together are good enough – with these two sources it can be added to the article, I think. --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:19, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Skills? Apparently she speaks five languages. edit

There’s an anonymous deletion of this info from Personal Life a few days ago. It seems like it ought to be significant enough to appear somewhere. (Two of them are Ukrainian and Russian, interestingly; Ukrainian was her first language.) I’d be interested in hearing the rationale for deleting this, for my own fledgling WP education. Left Central (talk) 01:16, 22 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Some might consider that trivial – it's likely borderline, unless she acts in non-English roles. It also needs to be sourced to a bona fide WP:RS – often this kind of thing is reported in low-quality sourcing, rather than high-quality ones. 01:56, 22 May 2022 (UTC) --IJBall (contribstalk) 01:56, 22 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the good speedy feedback! Something I should have done: 20 seconds on Duck Duck Go turned up that she lives her roots: ongoing interaction with Ukraine, especially since the war started. She has launched a support foundation, etc. Several good WP:RSs, at first blush. So there’s a piece of her life that would be a worthwhile addition. (Probably not by me: I have constrained capacity and limited WP skills.) But it seems Notable — much more so than just listing linguistic prowess, as you point out so clearly. 🙏🏼 Left Central (talk) 15:39, 22 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
