Source edit

What is the source for "Due to this Indian Navy arrested 14 SL Navy Officials who entered the border of India with unauthorized ships and Indian Navy Boat blew off one of its tugs which used to attack Indian Fishermen. However, no casualties of SL navy were reported."? I am Sri Lankan, but I have never heard such news before and I even couldn't find any article related to that news in the internet even I searched for that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.129.234.198 (talk) 15:08, 3 February 2011 (UTC) dsffdfdg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.165.4.231 (talk) 12:48, 14 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Misconception edit

The article says "it was ceded to Sri Lanka", but Jayasinghe, then Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Foreign Affairs rejects this term in his book Maritime Neighbours : Kachchativu : And the Maritime Boundary Of Sri Lanka, January 2004, in which he says "I was prompted to write a book on Kachchativu, in order to dispel a misconception that India “gifted” or “ceded” Kachchativu to Sri Lanka through goodwill and in the interest of our bilateral relations." The same matter is denoted in an Indian authors article written in 1974 soon after the Agreement. SD Muni in his Kachchativu Settlement: Befriending Neighbouring Regimes, Economic and Political Weekly, Vol. 9, No. 28 (Jul. 13, 1974), pp. 1119+1121-1122 says that sovereignty of Sri Lanka over Kachchativu was recognized by India.--Fahim (talk) 07:20, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

English spelling edit

Hi. I will be renaming this article to Katchatheevu, as it is the common name.

Feel free to add more variants to the list, for future reverence. Rehman 02:27, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not accurate to say "is a disputed territory claimed by India". edit

The Indian Govt. has not claimed the territory. It is various State Govts. in Tamil Nadu who have raised the issue of traditional fishing grounds. The citation added by whoever wrote this also supports the fact that it is the Tamil Nadu Govt. and not the Indian Govt. that has raised any issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 106.51.242.22 (talk) 08:33, 21 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Question over source edit

If the information is correct in the indianexpress.com article, why remove it from the article? Is this some political editing going on here? Govvy (talk) 09:45, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
