Bot faking of metrics perhaps?

edit

I have real concerns bot are being used to artificially inflate the subscriber and view metrics on Youtube. There are claims from Youtube they can identify this, and there are claims by others they subscriptions and views are to be bought. The question is, are these metrics reliable? @Djm-leighpark: There was a closely related discussion few months ago at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 301#YouTube personality subscriber and viewing figures in BLPs. I think there is a general feeling that the numbers are not reliable for the very reason you raised. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:40, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Bucket and shovel mathematics: If there are of the order of 35M Malayalam speakers in India, and 5M subscribers; that implies 1 in 7 Malayalam speakers subscribe. I'm not sure that is creditable. The numbers I have taken here are somewhat outdated and don't account for diaspora.Djm-leighpark (talk) 16:09, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, to be fair, I checked out a minute or two of one video and the default captions were "English (India)" rather than "auto translate" so it looks like they are also catering to an English-reading audience. The audio was definitely not in English. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:23, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@davidwr: Fair point. Google should be able to do the analytics which should be able to work it out, though to be fair Google may have a conflict of interests as advertising revenue is involved if I understand it correctly. 16:48, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Re: Your edit summary That will certainly be a non-bot view! I can see academics using bots to scrape the captions. But yeah, if the goal is to inflate numbers, who cares what the captions are  . Oh, and the Google COI issue is, well, yeah, "nailed it." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:59, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Draft accepted

edit

I just accepted the WP:Articles for creation draft. The case for notability is marginal but I went ahead and accepted it after discussing it on WikiProject India's talk page. Please see the "AFC comments" at the top of this old revision for a link to that discussion. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:45, 1 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Bonadea: I noticed you tagged this for notability. The case to move this from draft as part of an AFC review is weak but at the time (see link to old version above, which includes "afc comments" that link to other discussions regarding this topic's notability), it looked like it was "over the line" in terms of notability. That said, it's probably better to be tagged so it can get some attention than not be tagged, so thank you for taking the time to evaluate and tag the article. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:21, 21 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Removed notability maintenance template

edit

Removed maintenance template for notability, as it has 17 references as on date, and hence it is evident that the content is subject of multiple non-trivial independent articles, as required in the notability criteria for web content.--Anoopkn (talk) 18:13, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is Karikku a Youtube Personality? In my opinion, marking Karikku using the Youtube personality doesn't seem right. Karikku can be considered as a media production company. So I suggest changing the youtube personality infobox.
