Karol, Karel, Carl or Karl edit

I was undecided as to which name to choose. My main source was Grove V, which calls him Karol, so I stuck with that. Thinking about it later, I was wondering whether New Grove still calls him Karol, because that sounds more like a Polish name (cf. Karol Szymanowski). Halir was "Bohemian", which means either Czech or Slovak. In Czech the usual spelling is Karel - see [1], and Karel (given name), but in Slovak it's Karol, so he may have been Slovak rather than Czech. On the other hand, googling "Karel Halir Sibelius" gets a lot more hits than "Karol Halir Sibelius". However, because he lived and worked mainly in Germany, he became Carl (or sometimes Karl), and he's most often referred to by one of these spellings, so maybe one of them should prevail. Any thoughts? -- JackofOz (talk) 19:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

My source (a very detailed source of informations on Czech music) calls him Karel Halíř, and Halir (German version). He was of course Czech, not Slovak or Pole. His name was Karel Halíř, although he often performed and worked abroad. Google search for Karel Halíř violinist is here. Btw, very nice article with accurate informations. --Vejvančický (talk) 21:08, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

My source:

  • Černušák, Gracián (ed.) (1963). Československý hudební slovník I. A-L. Prague: Státní hudební vydavatelství. {{cite book}}: |first= has generic name (help); Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help) (in Czech)
Thanks. OK, in that case, I think I'll move it to Karel Haliř. --- JackofOz (talk) 21:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Which I've just discovered I can't do, because Karel Haliř already exists as a redirect page. It needs admin intervention. I'd happily cut and paste the text into Karel Haliř, but this is not permitted. Help! -- JackofOz (talk) 21:21, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
His name was Halíř with í, not Haliř. --Vejvančický (talk) 21:25, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Noted, and changes made in the article. Thanks for your assistance, Vejvančický. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:48, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
