Altitude edit

The Khunjerab Pass article puts the altitude at 4693 metres, which seems more likely. Some reports say 4733 metres. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mhockey (talkcontribs) 04:04, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

One GPS Track shows it as being 4710 m. --katpatuka (talk) 19:23, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Official website of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation lists the altitude of Khunjerab Pass as 4733 meters. Follow the link: http://www.tourism.gov.pk/northern_areas.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.172.193.210 (talk) 00:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I crossed the Pass by motorcycle from China to Pakistan June 2008. On the top of the pass I stopped. My gps indicated 4715m. http://www.boskoop2nepal.nl/blog/wp-content/gallery/B2N/IMG_1853.jpg http://www.boskoop2nepal.nl/blog/wp-content/gallery/B2N/IMG_1851.jpg 80.126.45.231 (talk) 22:28, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's 4693m, or within a few feet. That's from SRTM and various GPS readings....I got 4695 on my GPS when I was there. (The low point on the divide (i.e., the pass), geographically, is just to the left of the road at the border, coming from Pak., but that spot and the high point of the road are within a few meters in elevation.) Topo satellite image edit

I noticed that user Originalwana (talk) added a Topo satellite image (named Landslide Lake in Northwest Pakistan.jpg) of the highway -- saying the highway shows up in the image as a faint line. From my perspective, it doesn't show up at all. Is there a way to highlight the highway on that map? IMHO, it just isn't clear.

Hi 842U, if you look at the image on the commons, you will see that I added an image note in the general region of the line. Also if you would like to know more, you can view the image on the source page for a more detailed description. I agree that it isn't clear, but it does say that its faint! As for highlighting roads etc on images, I am not aware of any way of doing this other than making a derivative of the file and highlighting the road yourself, using image software or something. Originalwana (talk) 11:00, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
So a reader would only get this "image note" information if they... what... clicked through to Wikipedia Commons... in which case the image still doesn't show which portion of the highway we're looking at, or even if the whole highway is depicted or just a portion of the highway, etc.
I vote to remove the Topo satellite image until it is more readily useful. I love the idea of showing the highway in a satellite context... this image just doesn't do it.... the highway isn't identified or identifiable in the image. It's like a photograph of a million people with a subtitle "Heather Locklear is in there... somewhere."842U (talk) 12:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Intro Hyperbole edit

The introduction is rife with hyperbole and lacking citations -- what gives here? 842U (talk) 22:28, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The 8th wonder of the world part certainly needs to be rewritten Kind Regards, NotAnotherNameGuy (talk) 23:55, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

North end / South end mixed up? edit

At the moment the article states;
North end: Hasan Abdal, Sarhad, Pakistan
South end: Kashgar, Xinjiang, China
Sure this didn't get mixed up in some of the diffs?

length of travel edit

I think it would be beneficial to note how long it actually takes to make the trip. I'm assuming these 1,300km cannot be covered in a single day. 77.125.89.227 (talk) 20:06, 20 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

No Citation edit

I found this tacked on to one section. It did not fit in that section, and there was no citation.

(In 747 Gao Xianzhi, a Tang general crossed the Broghol Pass into what is now Pakistan — the furthest Chinese penetration in this direction. He was later defeated at the Battle of Talas, and the Chinese withdrew from the region.)

If someone could find a citation for this, please put it back in. Until then, I'd recommend that we keep it out of the main page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.164.237.79 (talk) 17:19, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

The first part of that quote about General Gao is true. Here is a cite for it. The 2nd part about strategic importance of Battle of Talas is contested (see Battle of Talas article itself). However neither had direct impact on this highway. --Voidvector (talk) 00:18, 25 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Karakorum Highway Realignment (China-Pakistan Friendship Tunnels) edit

The above page does not appear to need its own article; information will fit better within the article on the Highway. PamD 07:48, 2 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose - The aforementioned project is a part of KKH and deserves its own page since it was a major project in its own right. 66.194.2.2 (talk) 13:20, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - It may be worth its own page, but for this the article needs to be expanded and improved. Otherwise this short text of one paragraph is better incorporated in the KKH article. -- KlausFoehl (talk) 15:58, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
