Untitled edit

The neutrality of the article seems suspect ref: "It is conveniently (for 'secular' reasons) accepted that the temple was built in the 7th century CE...." also "Some "HIS" Story people want us to believe that the original temple *was* indeed on the beach..." I request that the article be flagged

Is this copyvio? No references or sources given edit

No indication where this info comes from. Looking through history, info seems to have been enter in large chunks without modification. Mattisse(talk) 12:25, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Original temple? edit

The scholarly view that accounts for the discrepancies is that the original temple was built on the shore at the location of the current Santhome Church but was destroyed by the Portuguese, and the current temple (which is 1-1.5 km from the shore) was built more recently. A small minority of people believe that the original temple was indeed on the beach, but that the sea has receded over centuries.

Any refs for this? Srikanth (speak) 06:26, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup on October 20, 2010 edit

I have copy-edited this article and removed the cleanup tag. The major problem with this article remains the lack of references and in-line citations. This tag will be added shortly.

A few notes about the edits are below.

  • In the section on Traditions, I deleted some text that did not have citations. I was not able to independently verify this material due to cross-cultural and linguistic considerations, but if any other editor would like to re-insert this material along with appropriate citations they would be most welcome to do so.
  • I have no idea how to edit the following text, so I deleted it and placed it here for reference since it seems important. It was the second paragraph in the sub-section titled Therottam (car) festival.
In all the ten days of festival "Panchamurthis" go grand procession in all four mada streets called car street or trietheru with drums and other traditional musical instruments playing before them. "Panchamurthis" refer to Sri Vinayagar who always leads the procession followed by Sri Kapaleeshwarar the Lord, Sri Karpagaambal the Goddess, Lord Subramanyar with his consorts and finally Sri Chandikeswarar who represents all the devotees. The procession is followed by vedins who chant four vedas and othuvaars who sings Tamil thirumurais
  • I have also deleted the following text from the last section, on the Arupathimoovar festival, because I have no idea how to edit this in English (owing to the large number of Tamil/Sanskrit words and religious concepts). Any help from other editors would be much appreciated.
The idol of Ganesha is first taken in procession during the festival, and is followed by Kolavizhi Amman. Kolavizhi Amman will lead the festival because this temple is supposed to be ancient than Kapaleashwar Temple. SingaraVelar Swamy will accompany Lord KapaleashwararSwamy and Karpagambal.
Mundakanni Amman will be beautifully decorated with lot of colours and ornaments. People used to keep their kids on the pallaq in order to get blessing from the Goddess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Idunno271828 (talkcontribs) 04:25, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
