edit

This page needs to be removed or modified. There is no such flag nor does Indian Government allow any such flag

The Kannada flag has been flown at places around Karnataka and is recognised as the unofficial flag of the state. It is flown at various circles and parks of Karnataka especially in Bangalore and during state functions. So this page is essential as the flag is existent and actively used.

offensive statement used edit

"This flag is confusingly hoisted on November 1 on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava which is a state holiday (by some people thinking it a so called State flag,) in many institutions and after hoisting the flag state anthem 'Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate' is sung." The line used as "so called state flag" is mocking the use of the flag in reality. It has to be removed. Adarshkannada (talk) 16:33, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

I propose that Karnataka flag be merged into Kannada flag. I think that the content in the Karnataka flag article can easily be explained in the context of Kannada flag, and the Kannada flag article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Karnataka flag will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. Kannada flag is here since 2009, untill last week Karnataka flag was redirected to this article. • Oppose - The Kannada flag is a flag of a political party, and has been an unofficial flag for various uses. The Karnataka flag is the proposed official flag of a state of India, is of a different design, and thus probably notable in its own right. If anything, assuming it becomes official, it should be the main article. Imagine having the Flag of India at one of the earlier party flags simply because those flags are older. - BilCat (talk) 05:48, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - except Kashmir, who ironically enjoy special status none of indian states have or will be garanted to have own flag ! so called Karnataka flag will be remained as a simply a proposal ! on the other hand Kannda flag was a party flag but long became an official ethnic kannada flag and somehow de facto/ unofficial state flag of Karnataka.--89.1.185.15 (talk) 20:10, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
no doubt! both of the Flags have some notability but would be great into one single article like Flags of Tamils. My proposal would be Flags of Karnataka with new proposed flag, old kannada flag and mysore state flag nad royal mysore banner on a list--89.1.185.15 (talk) 20:15, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I disagree with your comparison to Tamil flags as that article primarily regards historical flags, and it is an article in list format rather than a standard encyclopedic article. Brendon the Wizard ✉️ 00:56, 3 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose merge The Kannada flag should be mentioned on the Karnataka flag as it served as the de facto flag of the region, but the new Karnataka flag has been recognized by the state government of Karnataka as an official symbol (though it still has to get through New Delhi for the official recognition process to complete). The two subjects are related, but not intimately related and indistinguishable; the official flag of a large subnational region with 60M people shouldn't be merged into an article for a political party's banner, but we should also maintain information that recognizes the similar history and symbolism of these two flags.
