Providing references edit

Hi Scoutteamlegend. Let's see if we can get a few references into your article and show you how to do it. First, I'll choose a line or two from the article, and you tell me which source you drew the content from ... OK? Maineartists (talk) 23:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please provide reliable sources (links) that back these statements:

  • Kamar Baldwin was born on September 15, 1997 in Barrow County, Georgia.
  • As a freshman at Butler University, Baldwin worked his way into the starting lineup and was named a unanimous selection to the 2017 Big East All-Freshman Team.
  • Baldwin fell relatively under the radar being rated a three-star recruit and ultimately choose Butler University over schools such as Ole Miss.

Thanks! Maineartists (talk) 23:59, 3 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

"He wasn’t unknown — he was ranked 123rd in the 2016 class by Rivals — but had a low profile, as Hayward and Mack once did." http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/butler/2017/01/19/butlers-kamar-baldwin-ability-humility-ambidextrous/96664556/

There are multiple starting lineups featuring Kamar Baldwin as he began the year not starting and he was named All-Freshman according to Butler and other sites. I cannot specifically find his birthday anywhere besides his social media which I am not sure if its reliable. Scoutteamlegend (talk) 01:58, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

You are correct. Social media is not a reliable source. All sources must be independent of the subject. Right now all I'm seeing are "stats" and references to that claim. This will not make for a good article. It may even lead to a deletion due to non-notability. However, we can still keep going ahead as planned so that you can learn how to build a better article, regardless. At least now you can see how to place an inline citation with a source (see edit history). If you would like to try and insert the above reference, please do. I'll check your progress. Just copy and paste what I did with mine in the lede. Good luck! PS if you extracted any information from social media or personal websites, please remove them from the article. It will save time and energy. Maineartists (talk) 02:22, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Article improvement edit

I've added (2) references and a reflist. Along with a lede; and removed the header. Also, I removed double-content. The article needs some work on format. Once we get the handle on how-to referencing; we'll tackle the format and section work of the article itself. OK? Maineartists (talk) 00:45, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Nyttend Hey there. Those "bits" weren't broken code from a table. They were stats that the editor did not know how to place correctly within the article, that's all. This page is under-construction, so to speak. We'll get to it in time. No need to replace. I know where they are if we need them. Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 02:15, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks for the pointer. The pipe characters made it look like part of a table had been copied without the whole table (and without the labels, it couldn't really be fixed), so that's why I was thinking that. Nyttend (talk) 02:26, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
