Dallas shooter quote edit
Her quote about the Dallas shooter keeps getting removed. Why? It seems reasonable that someone could disagree with the source or the framing of her comment, but there seems to be little doubt that (1) she said it, and that (2) it is a notable part of her life. She has been placed on administrative leave.[1] To me that suggests that the incident is real, verifiable, and consequential. Wrecterectal (talk) 22:49, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
- Out of context "he was a martyr" and "doesn't feel sad for the officers" makes it sound like she's advocating murder, which if you listen to the whole thing is obviously untrue. May I propose the following paragraph:
- Of the Dallas police officers killed in 2016, in a video entitled "I don't want to feel this way..." she said "I'm dealing with a bit of guilt because I don’t feel sad for the officers that lost their lives, and I know that that’s not really my heart. I value human life. And I want to feel sad for them but I can't help but feeling like the shooter was a martyr. And I know it's not the right way to feel because nobody deserves to lose their lives."[1] Her employer, WPBT, said they "[do] not condone" her comments and placed her on administrative leave.[2]
- Does that sound acceptable? It keeps both the "was a martyr" and "doesn't feel sad for the officers" quotes but puts them into context. --ChiveFungi (talk) 00:17, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
The quote provided by User ChiveFungi is entirely accurate transcript wise, and I agree that it appropriately provides the full context in which Ms. Chapman's statement was made. I hope that the racially charged nature of this subject does not prevent an authentic description of the quote from being featured in the article.
