Misrepresentation

edit

Some of the details here are misrepresented. I am a student and have first hand experience. This article is guilty of misrepresentation. The college's 'claims' are not all fullfilled to the extent this article purports. I am a student and have first-hand experience.

actually there was some biased content but i think its fair enough now.--Brainmasterrohit (talk) 18:23, 24 June 2008 (UTC)ThE bmrReply

I certainly understand that you being a student have first-hand experience, but please try to understand that original research is not appropriate on Wikipedia. If citations are provided from reliable sources, then it helps towards the growth of the article. For now, I've seen the article been glossed with heaps of praise by certain over-zealous editors. That certainly doesn't help when there are no reliable sources. It is indeed very difficult for this article to do away with the WP:NPOV, WP:PEACOCK and WP:ADVERT tags unless the involved editors work towards making this more encyclopedic. Mspraveen (talk) 08:55, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have tried to add as many citations as possible and some of the portions of this article without adequate references have been removed. Can the WP:NPOV, WP:PEACOCK and WP:ADVERT tags be removed now? If not do tell, what more editing is required herein? Shyam.champ (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Kiit logo.gif

edit

Image:Kiit logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

It is KIIT University not just KIIT

edit

This article deals with the KIIT university as a whole and its constituent schools. What this article doesn't deals with?

  • only Engineering school or Management School or other schools. Every School can have their separate articles, already exist:

KIIT School of Technology, KIIT School of Management, KIIT Law School. Detailed information pertaining to the schools can go to the sub-articles rather than sections.

  • This article doesn't deals with the other institutes under KIIT Group of Institutions. Those institutes can have their separate articles.

I would request the editors to make sure that the article follow the Wikipedia norms and making sure that the article doesn't represent only a single school. Amartyabag TALK2ME 08:59, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hindi name

edit
  • Its Hindi name reads कलिंग इंस्टिच्यूट ऑफ इंडस्टियल टेक्नोलाजी, Kaliṃga Iṃsţicyūţ ŏph Iṃḍasţiyal Ţēknōlājī, with the "r" in "Industrial" omitted. Google search for कलिंग इंस्टिच्यूट found only forms without this R. Is this correct, or is it descended from an old typo by repeated copy-and-pasting? With this R restored, the Hindi name becomes कलिंग इंस्टिच्यूट ऑफ इंडस्ट्रियल टेक्नोलाजी Kaliṃga Iṃsţicyūţ ŏph Iṃḍasţriyal Ţēknōlājī. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:09, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

KIIT UniversityKalinga Institute of Industrial Technology – The institute was renamed back to its former name, following the UGC directive.[1] It is evident from the institutes website[2] And specifically its logo[3] that the renaming actually took place. Therefore, the article should be moved. Muhandes (talk) 07:13, 7 December 2017 (UTC) --Relisting. SkyWarrior 17:38, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Note: Additional evidence that the name "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology" is commonly used by secondary sources is provided below. --Muhandes (talk) 19:52, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Let me rephrase the request in legalise. The name should be changed to "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology" since it was always one of the common names used, especially by secondary sources, and when the official name also changed, there is no reason not to prefer it over other names. Since the name was officially changed no sooner than, and most likely exactly on, 30 November 2017,[4][5] secondary sources after the change are few. However, even before the change, "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology" was very commonly used. National Institutional Ranking Framework has always used "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[6] QS World University Rankings uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University".[7] Kalinga TV uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology" on the first mention, and only after introducing the full, common name, it uses an abbreviation "KIIT University". The Telegraph uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University".[8] Pragativadi uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[9] NDTV uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[10] Telangana Today uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[11] The Indian Express uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[12] The Economic Times uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[13] Times Now uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[14] Mumbai Mirror uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology".[15] The Times of India uses Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) university.[16] Business Standard uses "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University".[17]
So to summarize, even if the changing of the official name in itself is not a valid reason, secondary sources show the name "Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology" is at least as widely used as "KIIT University", and the changing of the official name may just be the reason to look more deeply into this. Add to this the fact that involved editors have no objection, as shown by the other !votes. --Muhandes (talk) 13:42, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Discussion

edit

Buried in the proposer's expanded argument above is a valid argument for moving, and even evidence supporting this. Thank you!

Wade through it if you wish. There's no legalise that I can see, but the first paragraph is padded with several more invalid arguments, and as far as I can see nothing relevant at all is said in the second paragraph despite the to summarize intro (at least as is not the issue but wp:NAMECHANGES is, and nor is the fact that I'm not involved, etc).

But in the first paragraph there is also evidence that the longer version is the common name (and always was). That's all we need. Let us move on. Andrewa (talk) 19:58, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
