I can't see how this office merits a "High" in Ethiopian studies; despite having read several general surveys, this is the first I've heard of him. so I'm reducing this subject to "Mid". -- llywrch (talk) 20:08, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Kes" also refers to Ethiopian (and presumably, Eritrean) Orthodox Christian priests. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:58, 11 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Chief Kes edit

I suggest we merge Chief Kes into this article. Chief Kes is currently a two-sentence stub and has been that way since its creation in 2008. There's really nothing that isn't already covered here. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:17, 14 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Kahen (Beta Israel) and Kahen (Ethiopian Church) edit

I'm looking for sources for a Kahen (Ethiopian Church) article, but I'm not quite seeing enough for a separate article just yet. Most of the books I'm finding either discuss Jewish Kahens (I will add what I can from them when I can), or their relationship to debteras. I should be able to come up with enough material to either:

  • expand this article to a general Kahen article that discusses the similarities and differences between Jewish and Christian Kahens (as with the debtera article)

Or

Following the debtera article, I'm inclined to go with a meatier Kahen article, but would be willing to put the Christian Kahen material in the priest article if others think it would be more appropriate there. Ian.thomson (talk) 19:46, 15 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The idea of a general article is great. I support this and I will also try to help with my limited English. אדעולם (talk) 20:14, 15 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Unless we get some good objections, I'll try to get started tomorrow (meeting some friends for a weekly game night as soon as I finish this post). Of course, others are welcome to get started before then. Ian.thomson (talk) 20:29, 15 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, it would be better to create a general article (Kahen) which will include a paragraph about Beta Israel Kahen, next to an independent article. אדעולם (talk) 00:37, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think it'd be odd to have just one big article, they're quite different, one's a ethnic subset of the hereditary Kohens whereas the other is a Christian Priest it's sort of like merging christianity and judaism . . . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elatanatari (talkcontribs) 21:59, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Too much jargon edit

Someone with the requisite knowledge should go through this article and either reword or at least simplify it to be accessible to the average layman. Words like falasyan, haymanot, debtera, etc need to be more concisely defined in the article, or replaced with more generalised terms. Trilobright (talk) 21:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
