Article name

edit

I have moved this article back to KTVA from KTVA-TV. Consensus on both WP:NC#Broadcasting and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations#Article_names is that the article name should reflect the actual call letters of the TV station. As can be seen here: [1] the call letters for this station are in fact KTVA. Any concerns regarding this topic would be best addressed here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations. CBS affiliation

edit

I removed the CBS affiliation as the CBS CEO denies any affiliation with them:

that source says that cbs does not own the station, not that they aren't a cbs affilate. sheesh. The fererence to Joe Miler ignores that ktva has tried to ape big city "controversial" style news "journalism" since Augie Hiebert so;d the joint back in the late 1990s. do yer research.

Speakeing of do yer research, does andrea gusty leaving the station to go work for Lisa Murkowski haver anything to do with payback, not only perhaps connected to aany joe miller witchhunt but all the native money poured into not only lisa's campaigns but also frank's over the pat decade? just curiosu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.237.34.130 (talk) 11:53, 20 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't know the exact, legal definitions of Affiliate etc, but fomr 1965 to 1970 KTVA carried CBS news, and we considered ourselves a CBS affiliate. I vouch for those years because I was either a staffer or News Director. Terry Vann. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.68.224.158 (talk) 22:59, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Tagged

edit

I tagged the On air section because, personally, I don't know how you could find a source for all of those descriptions for people who work at the station. I am going to ask other editors about the recent mass additions to the article, and find out if they should stay or go. There also may be some BLP issues there. --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 06:37, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

WP:NOTjustaboutanythingyoucanthinkof. Since there's an actual user account, someone could ask how much more they had to contribute. There's actually some useful information. With some obvious trimming, additional information and sources (if I can ever get to a library, that is; it -40 to -50 F all around right now), this article could go somewhere. Especially detailing Hiebert's role in bringing television to Alaska, when Cap Lathrop himself, and the Lathrop Company trustees following his death, kept insisting that television would be ruinous to their movie theater revenues. There are other things, but they'll have to wait until I have time to dig things up.RadioKAOS (talk) 15:42, 29 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have restored the paragraph about the "F*** it, I quit" reporter because while the reporter is not notable for an article (would fail WP:BLP1E), and the incident is not notable for an article (would fail WP:NOTNEWS), I think the incident is notable enough to be included in the article about the station. Furthermore, the reason for the removal of the paragraph (not wanting to give attention because of an upcoming election) seems invalid. Victor Victoria (talk) 23:13, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Revert to dab page

edit

To editor Victor Victoria: My goodness, I thought you would be very happy with my edit, which accomplished:

  1. a link to a page that had an intro almost identical to the one that was at outro (disambiguation),
  2. the intro at outro (book) was improved to include news stories,
  3. the disambiguation page was improved with more entries,
  4. the disambiguation of a link on this page, which is a desirable situation and one I thought you were seeking in the discussion at the guideline page.

In that discussion you said you felt that the introductory sentence in the Outro article is the best link for the link that I made. That intro sentence was also found at Outro (book). What has changed? – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 03:26, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
PS. Also, I have moved "Outro (book)" to Outro (literary), since the parenthetical disambiguation "book" is reserved for book titles and was probably confusing for readers. PS left by – Paine
PPS. FYI, I have proposed page moves to improve this situation. PPS left by – Paine  06:17, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion, the best link for Outro is the first sentence of the dabs page that says that outro "is a portmanteau of 'out'+'intro', and is complementary to 'intro'". I don't think closing credits is the appropriate link. Victor Victoria (talk) 20:21, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, Outro (literary) is better. Victor Victoria (talk) 20:23, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Before and After September 2021

edit

I have a theory:

Given the fact that KHON and KHII are a duopoly of stations in Hawaii, Nexstar could have the potential to buy KTVA (making it Nexstar's first station in Alaska) and turn it into a full-fledged independent station. Maybe the reason for that is Nexstar could try to counter "Alaska's News Source" on KTUU and KYES, as KHON/KHII's newscasts did to "Hawaii News Now" as well as the potential merger of news operations from both KTVF and KXDF in the Interior and both KATH/KSCT and KXLJ/KTNL/KUBD in the Southeast. Maybe Nexstar could engage a hostile takeover of Ketchikan Television, owner of KUBD-LP, serving the Kodiak archipelago.

Who know? Maybe we'll just have to wait and see. --RevinCBHatol (talk) 23:02, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

Why does the newer KTVA logo keep getting deleted? It is still there logo until September, 3rd 2021. Why does KTVA also not have a founder listed? By what I am reading from this Wikipedia article isn’t Augie Hiebert the founder of KTVA? If you people are going to delete the newer logo then put it in the history section. If you are going to remove KTVA’s logo then I will just keep adding it until you decide to utilize it. So figure out how to utilize the Newer KTVA logo. I don’t care if you fix the wording at the bottom but stop deleting the newer logo for KTVA. The location for KTVA and Denali media holdings is listed on Google maps still which is where I got the location from. Denali media holdings had KTVA in their building but unfortunately When you type KTVA in it shows you there smaller old building that they used until they renovated dozens of office space to prep the location that is listed for their news room. See WP:OWN. There are a small group of editors active on Wikipedia who (almost) exclusively edit television station articles and are entirely uninterested in giving appropriate weight to the whole of a station's history. Thanks to this activity, a media company effectively buys exposure on Wikipedia when they buy a property. These editors have no hesitation whatsoever about edit warring or running to mommyan admin or any other forms of gaming the system necessary to get their way. As an example, I hope you've taken note of the sockpuppet investigation against you. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 09:16, 23 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
