Unreliable source for verifiable information edit

In my recent edit to the article , I mention the rape comments made by the MLA in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The video of this incident is available and the incident is very much verifiable and real. But because citations are important and the incident is very recent (that's why there aren't many articles on it) i cited an article from a website (republic world) which is apparently is restricted(with exceptions). I still went ahead and made the edit because the incident is verifiable. Is it okay? [1]
Edit : Pretty weird , my edit was deleted and a new one was placed with a different article with same news , why don't we care more about the content of the news than who is reporting it? Extorc (talk)
