Orthography edit

Hey Maunus, superb article- kudos!

One thing, if we are settled on using ALMG orthography (which I think is a sound idea), then perhaps we should have Q'umarkaj instead of Q'umarkah..?

Looking up ALMG's handy "Diagramación de los alfabetos para la aplicación del método" (PDF). (1.8 MB) charts, h is abandoned in favour of j in the K'iche' alphabet. For consistency with ALMG, I would propose also using b' instead of b. What do you think? --cjllw ʘ TALK 02:50, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are not wrong. We move it.·Maunus· ·ƛ· 07:45, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Location of Jakawitz edit

It appears the location of Jakawitz in the Chujuyup area is still a matter of debate, and not shared by all mayanists. While Carmack and Fox are inclined towards Chujuyup as the most likely location of Jakawitz, van Akkeren suggests its probable location is south of Chichicastenango. (see: van Akkeren, Ruud (2002) El lugar en donde salió el primer sol para los K’ich’e; Jakawits, su nueva ubicación. In: XV Simposio de Investigaciones Arqueológicas en Guatemala, 2001. Laporte,J.P., H. Escobedo & B. Arroyo (eds), pp.1-12. Museo Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología, Guatemala).
It might be an idea to add a footnote referring to this debate, and perhaps change the text from "The "forefathers" conquered the indigenous highland peoples and founded a capital at Jakawitz in the Chujuyup valley" to: The "forefathers" conquered the indigenous highland peoples and founded a capital at Jakawitz, possibly located in the Chujuyup valley. Sounds a sensible proposal to me. --cjllw ʘ TALK 04:26, 21 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Social organization edit

"The population divided between the nobles and their vassals". It seems to me the proper word is "subjects", not "vassals". --Agatino Catarella (talk) 09:55, 18 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
