Based on Asian or other stories? edit
Are the just-so stories based on indian, Arab, Persian or other sories from other cultures? The story about the whale has an American `feel' to it. Barney Bruchstein (talk) 19:02, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi at @Barney Bruchstein: It is an interesting question. There is a shift, I think, in the tone of the stories, sometimes musing and other times parodying. The tale you mention is discussed at one website, http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/rg_whale1.htm, the notes there are fairly conservative but extensive. An elaboration on this for each story or the whole work is worth adding to the article. cygnis insignis 16:02, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
- At least the story 'The crab that played at the sea' is based on an older Malay story. which is also recorded in Walter W Skeat's 'Malay Magic' (Mcmillan and Co, London 1900). Sejtam (talk) 16:14, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
