Fall of Rome

edit

Did the Allies enter Rome on June 5th or June 4th?

Moved / removed

edit

It did happen in 1741 but the June 5th date is only supported by bad sources as far as I could tell. Other possible dates: June 15th (log entry by the captain for that day as told by a 5th grade student), June 8th (only ref seems to be Encarta and works that used Encarta as a reference [http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761569148_6/Alaska.html\). --mav 21:31, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Moved to June 15:

Nope - happened on June 15. --mav 21:31, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Removed:

Not significant to world history. --mav

Could not be confirmed outside of 'this day in history'-type websites and Wikipedia mirrors. --mav 21:31, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Moved to June 4:

  • 1944 - World War II: Rome falls to the Allies. It is the first capital of an Axis nation to fall

Nope - it fell on the 4th (unless there is a time zone issue). [1] --mav 21:31, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

  • Removed 1944 - World War II: The two largest invasion fleets heretofore in history sailed that morning on opposite sides of the world.

I assume one refers to the Normandy D-day invasion of June 6, 1944; the other is less clear to me. Awkwardly worded, no link to an actual event. Bo Lawler 21:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rubik's Cube World Championships

edit

I was just wondering why this event was deleted from the list. Is it not notable enough? (If it is not, it should also be removed from the 1982 page, where it is also listed.) I'd appreciate an explanation, if only so I can better understand what types of events are considered notable, and which ones are not. Thanks! --Twilightsojourn 20:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Socrates

edit

Is there anyone who can verify that Socrates was born on this day? 199.91.34.33 (talk) 13:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I doubt it. As far as I'm aware, even the year of his birth is not 100% certain. Cosmic Latte (talk) 13:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've gone ahead and removed that entry. I can't find any evidence to support it. Cosmic Latte (talk) 05:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

But no one there seems to know why? Any one with info on this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WINNERMOI (talkcontribs) 05:07, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Grundlovsdag

edit

In Denmark, June 5th is celebrated as the day that Grundloven(The Fundamental Law, or act "The Ground Law") was signed by King Frederik the 7th. The law was a major breakthrough for democracy and freedom of expression, and I think it is still the dominating law in Danish law. Isn't that interesting enough to get on the list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.27.162.135 (talk) 15:13, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

It certainly is, and it's already mentioned under June 5#Events as well as June 5#Holidays and observances. Favonian (talk) 15:23, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Births and deaths

edit

In accordance with the guidelines, I'm continuing to weed the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these have been transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. As well as making the lists more manageable, this will help with the globalization effort. World Day against Speciesism

edit

does not belong here, is a private initiative. any discussion? --142.163.195.66 (talk) 17:07, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

  Done Good idea. Toddst1 (talk) 17:21, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's a day that's been observed internationally. A glimpse into it can be had at this link, for example. Like many other international days, it could've begun as a private initiative but it's not private any more. It's one of the days when awareness events are conducted across the globe by the animal liberation movement. There are news articles on this as well (just added one).
