I don't see how someone can be a literary translator of Petrarch, Catullus, Ovid, Martial, and Horace if one does not have Latin (and amonst the languages that it's said he speaks, Latin is not one). Only the languages the author can fluently speak have been listed.
The author is also proficient in Portuguese and has reading knowledge of Latin.
