Oscar Valuation edit

The valuation of Oscar is incorrect, as of February 2016 the company is valued at $2.7 billion. The below articles from Forbes and Bloomberg have the correct valuation along with the most recent fundraising information. For full disclosure, I work for a public relations firm that represents Josh Kushner and Oscar.

Done, but I removed the financing stat as I assume that is also out of date. If you can provide an up-to-date source I will restore it. Altamel (talk) 00:48, 22 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Occupation Side Bar edit

Josh is no longer an owner of Vostu. His occupation should also reflect his role as Co-Founder of Oscar Insurance as it is also stated in the entry's opening paragraph. For full disclosure, I work for a public relations firm that represents Josh Kushner and Oscar.

Scene Magazine edit

Under the "Career" section, there is a considerable focus on Scene Magazine with much of it focused on criticism surrounding the magazine. Only one of the articles cited in the section mentions Josh and his part in the story is a single quote. The articles cover the founders of the magazine more than anything else. Would it be possible to remove references to Scene considering the articles used have almost nothing to do with Josh and overall his time there has no relevance to his career?

For full disclosure, I work for a public relations firm that represents Josh Kushner and Oscar.

Suhaibhabibullah (talk) 20:40, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Done per WP:DUE. You appear to be correct in that the content was about the publication and not about the subject of this article (see also WP:COAT).
If editors feel that this content is relevant, and that the publication meets WP:NOTE, then a separate article for the publication should be developed and linked to from this article. Otherwise, content on this article should be directly relevant, directly about, the subject of the article (compare the lenghty section about Microsoft on Bill Gates, that nonetheless, manages to be about Gates throughout). TimothyJosephWood 17:28, 20 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Scene Magazine Added Again edit

As mentioned earlier, the focus on Scene Magazine with much of it focused on criticism surrounding the magazine has little to do with Josh. The article that's cited for the criticism of the magazine does not mention Josh at all. The mention was previously removed after being reviewed by another member of the Wikipedia community. Given that it was removed before it would be possible to remove that scene mention again?

For full disclosure, I work for a public relations firm that represents Josh Kushner and Oscar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suhaibhabibullah (talkcontribs) 19:10, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oscar 2017 Updates edit

Currently, the Oscar section does not provide any information about the company after 2015. This year there have been a few updates to the company which have been referenced in the Oscar Wiki page as well, the company has announced its entrance in the small group insurance market [1], a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic [2], a partnership with Humana to sell insurance in Nashville to small businesses [3], 2018 expansion plans to areas of Tennessee, Ohio, Texas, New Jersey and California. Separating Thrive and Goldman Sachs and adding Work at Thrive Details edit

Since Josh has been at Thrive for five years and counting compared to one year at Goldman Sachs it may be better to separate the two sections. Also considering the length of his career now, would it make sense to wrap Scene, Vostu, Unithrive and Goldman Sachs into an "Early Career" section? Since he's actively involved in Thrive Capital, Oscar and Cadre, they could be included in a "Current Work" section.

Details of Thrive's most recent raise (Thrive V) should be added. In 2016, Thrive closed a $715 million fund which brings the firms total assets under management to $1.5 billion.[5][6][7] As seen in other VC wiki pages, some of the firm's investments should be listed such as Slack [8] [9], Stripe [10], GitHub [11], Warby Parker [12], Harry's [13], Glossier [14], and Spotify [15]. In addition, a number of Thrive's portfolio companies have been acquired by other major companies like Instagram's acquisition by Facebook for $1 billion [16], Twitch's acquisition by Amazon for $970 million [17] and Jet's acquisition by Walmart for $3 billion. [18] Thrive has also incubated companies like Oscar, Cadre, Capsule, Cedar and Maple. [19]

@Suhaibhabibullah: Thanks for clarifying that you are paid. Can you look at the disclosure at the top of the page and tell me if it is correct? Regarding your suggestions I have moved the earlier roles of Kushner into a subsection called "Early career", but I have not implemented the other changes. The reason I have not implemented the other changes is that because they are not about Kushner but his companies, and company details other than those specific to Kushner should be kept on the company page if there is one. Reply 16-DEC-2019 edit

At first glance this appears to fall under WP:NOTADIRECTORY, as the subject's Wikipedia article ought not to become a directory of Thrive investments. There is also the difference between claims which fall under the subject of Thrive and those which fall under the subject of Kushner — and the general preference that the twain should seldom meet as content in the same article (per WP:COATRACK). Pinging @Emir of Wikipedia: for their input on this. Regards,  Spintendo  21:07, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I see what you're saying and will move to request a Thrive Page be created so this does not become a directory. One note however, his page currently has information about Thrive's past fund raises as a firm, so that section should be updated with the latest information on Thrive VI as cited above. Please let me know if that makes sense! Suhaibhabibullah (talk) 15:03, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Acceptably sourced information edit

@Hipal: reverted edits to that I made to the Joshua Kushner and Karlie Kloss. Most of it was pre-existing material on Kloss' page tranferred to Kushner's page. Hipal reverted for BLP/reliable sources. The non-preexisting addition that I made was sourced from JTA, a well-known and respected news agency. The reverts were unfounded.

In addition, a previous edit by another editor was removed:

@SarahFoxtrot1983: added their child's name.

@S0091: reverted that edit on the basis of WP:BLPNAMES. This was not applicable, as, a subject's child may be "part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject." Given the family connection (grandfather-in-law) to the name, and the subject's religious conversion due to the family, the context seems relevant. S0091 added a secondary reason of unreliable source (Page Six) which is debatable. Reliable sources are relative, and in the context of celebrities and celebrity news, Page Six might be considered a reliable celebrity news page; it is not the New York Times, but neither is it the National Enquirer. Its subject matter expertise is celebrity events. I'm on the fence for this source, cna anyone point to other discussions of it in the context of celebrity news that either nix it or support it?Dovid (talk) 22:34, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for starting a discussion and the ping.
We disagree on the application of BLPNAMES. As I understand it, the names of non-notable children are almost never included in such a manner.
I also saw the Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Page Six reference you added here.
I assume you were not aware of the edit summary (Please read WP:BLPNAMES, also Page Six is not a reliable source[1]) prior to your attempt to restore the child's name there just before you added it here. [2].
Given all that, I thought it best to revert you and leave you a note about it. --Hipal (talk) 23:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
BLPNAMES, as I quoted it, states that they can be included if relevant to an understanding of the subject, and I've stated the relevancy. I was not attempting to revert the name back in - I did npot know a previous editor had also been reverted, and discovered the SarahFoxtrot1983/S0091 interaction only when I went to investigate your reversion of my edit. You've stated that you don't agree with my interpretation of BLPNAMES, and that such non-notable names are rarely included. However, given the details I've quoted, I don't see how you can say that. The rarity is a consequence of children's names not typically being releavnt to understanding the subject. In this case, it is relevant.Dovid (talk) 18:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid I don't see a case for relevance in any of your comments. Could you clearly state it? --Hipal (talk) 18:47, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
A major concern is per Page Six the name was leaked so they never intended the public the know but were forced to announce it. Wikipedia should not perpetuate violations of privacy unless there is a compelling reason to do so. I do not see how the name of the their child is critical to understanding to Kushner. S0091 (talk) 19:18, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
She is a convert to Judaism and chose to name her son with a Jewish name, after her husband's grandfather. The fact that it is a Jewish name and that it represents a common Jewish practice is relevant to her Jewish journey. I'd also say that ascribing the public naming to "beating" the press deadline is purely speculative. They may have been ready to do so anyway, we'll never know unless they make a statement about it. We're not perpetuating Page Six privacy violatoions; we're repeating information that they have publicly posted. Dovid (talk) 16:36, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
If that's the best argument that can be made for it's inclusion, then we're wasting our time here. --Hipal (talk) 16:44, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Dovid, I see your point about my statement statement being speculation. You are correct; we do not know if they ever intended to release the name or not, only that they did not intend to do so at that time, thus the "leak" which happened a month after the child's birth. Nevertheless, we should strongly favor the privacy of minors per WP:BLPNAMES and WP:NONAME (an essay cited in similar discussions). Your argument, to me, does not meet the bar needed for inclusion. S0091 (talk) 18:35, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Picture of his aircraft edit

@Hipal: You removed my addition of a photo of his aircraft but didn't provide any reason besides saying "a picture of his plane?!". Could you expand upon your disagreement? Why wouldn't it be okay to add it in. Many BLP's have photos of the persons aircraft. See Roman Abramovich. Because you didn't provide a reason for deletion of my addition I believe I am allowed to undo your deletion, which I have done. SarahFoxtrot1983 (talk) 00:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for starting a discussion on the matter.
I'm not sure mention of the plane is even due and encyclopedic. To have a picture of it seems grossly inappropriate.
No, editors should not revert because they're unsure why content was changed, especially in a BLP.
Pointing out other articles with similar content is a poor argument per WP:OSE. Pointing out a high-quality article where there has been discussion on similar content may be helpful. --Hipal (talk) 01:49, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
