José Mariano de Conceição VellozoJosé Mariano da Conceição Veloso – That's how his name is modernly spelled; see also the Portuguese-language Wikipedia. RodRabelo7 (talk) 01:12, 28 April 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. ToadetteEdit! 11:51, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

The redirect uses Veloso, but the alternative spelling given in the article is Velloso (as also in WikiPedia FR). Apart from WikiPedia PT the remaining Wikipedias use Vellozo. IPNI's database of author names uses Vellozo. The title page for Flora Fluminensis also uses Vellozo. At Biodiversity Heritage Library the ratio of search results for Vellozo/Velloso/Veloso is approximately 2:2:1. I'm leaning towards oppose - Vellozo was the spelling he used. Lavateraguy, I understand your opinion and appreciate the feedback. In this case it appears to make sense to keep the archaic spelling as it has widespread use in sciences. Just noting that, in modern Portuguese, that's how his name would be spelled, and that's why his article on the Portuguese-language Wikipedia uses it—just like Luís de Camões, and not Luiz de Camoens or Luiz de Camões (archaic spellings).
