A note

Flagged the page for reading like an advertisement for Jonathan Morris. Statements like "Morris' work with Fox News has proven to be popular with viewers, with many voicing to the network – and to Morris – an interest in seeing more of him" or "Many in the news media turned to the young vice-rector for insight and perspective on the Pope and his impact on the church." are vague and add nothing to the page. The general tone of the entire article is very pro-Jonathan Morris, with word choice and article structure seemingly designed as a promotion rather than an encyclopedic entry. Also,why is there a quotes section? "People are starving for the love of Christ. The world needs priests. The world needs good moms and dads. The world needs good Christians." tells me nothing about Jonathan Morris.

I removed "and even going so far as to deceive Muslim worshippers in a ridiculous and offensive interview attempt on the street in front of a London mosque.[1] [2]" and a description of his views as "simpistic" but it probably still needs some cleanup for NPOV.

I've never edited Wikipedia articles before so I am a complete newbie. And (a) it's nearly impossible to find out how to stop this sort of thing and (b) the changed I made were reverted by the orignal vandal and/or some bot. On point "a," I checked the articles on "NPOV disputes" and "biographies of living persons," and I looked for but did not find Wikipedia policies on vandalism. I didn't see anything useful about stopping this sort of vandalism except to ask for an arbitrator, which apparently takes a "long" time. I was *hoping* flagging this a an NPOV dispute might get someone's attention, but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Meanwhile the user who vandalized the article is free to continually revert it. I thought Wikipedia learned something from the Siegenthaler incident. Apparently not: good job! 66.122.216.171=mcljef

Legion of Christ

Well-sourced information shows that Father Morris spent his entire clerical career with the Legion of Christ until things blew up for that order after the death of John Paul II. His association with the order is clearly part of his life story and including that association in the article is hardly inflammatory. If you have objections about the way it's presented, let's discuss that, but please do not delete the information. Lahaun (talk) 19:02, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

I adjusted the wording to be more exact with source. All it says about Morris is that he "belongs" and does not "identify" with them. His activity with them was probably in his younger years since they assist in studying for the priesthood. Yes, it would have been a big part of his life and for good or bad it is a notable group in the article. We'll see how my adjustment goes. Basileias (talk) 23:44, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Okay, let's see what happens. The cited Caroline Cho article, which is actually a puff piece about Morris, identifies him as "vice rector of the Legionaries of Christ Seminary in Rome." The article is undated, but refers to a 2006 event. The cited March 2010 AOL news article simply says that Morris and another priest, "belong to the Legion of Christ but rarely identify themselves as such ON CAMERA." (Emphasis added.) What seems to be apparent is that Morris wants to distance himself as far as he can from the Legion since none of his bios at Fox News, HarperOne (his publisher) or his own website mention that affiliation, which seems to have lasted from 2002 to at least 2009, ending only (at least publicly) when news broke that its founder, Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado, who died in 2008, allegedly, among other things, sexually abused his own illegitimate children. Lahaun (talk) 00:48, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

I corrected what you pointed out. Considering the Legions past, cannot say I blame him, but we need a proper source to state that in the article. I did not read the Cho article until now. If more can be found, then I think it would warrant a section on it. Vice rector would be an additional bit to add. Lets see if the opposing editor comes to join or just starts throwing out my edits. If he does that, then he is censoring and that will need to be stopped. Basileias (talk) 01:16, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

I do not see any value added to the article by the inclusion of the listed quotations, most of which seem to be platitudes. If you disagree, let's discuss. Jonathan Morris (priest) → Jonathan Morris (commentator) – Although it is unclear whether his request for laicization has been "officially" approved, he has clearly no longer been presenting himself as a priest for some time now. As a priest, Morris was best known for being a commentator for Fox News. Based on a cursory examination of his social media, he apparently still engages in this line of work (e.g. his current Twitter byline: "News Analyst for @foxnews and @foxbusiness"). It would seem that "commentator" is the best way to disambiguate him from the other Jonathan Morris articles going forward. Jdcompguy (talk) 16:27, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
