editMost of the information for this entry had to be obtained from the internet. Some of the award winners are missing from the list. Also some of the years may be wrong by a year or two.
i tried to obtain a complete list from Arts Council England but they were unable to say if a complete list existed. They say that most of the records prior to 1994 are now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, but I was not able to find many details from their on-line catalogue.

Award Years
editIn researching David Halliwell I noticed that both sources I cite for his winning play say that he received the 1977 John Whiting award. But the award ceremony occurred in December 1978. If we assume that both sources are correct, does this mean that the list is all off by a year or so? I think the question I have is, should the award be listed as the year it was physically given to the person or the award cycle year it was awarded for?
