Hairspray 2007
I thought that the 2007 Hairspray was really different from the origanal? And it was rewritted by... Leslie Dickson I think.. Right? MichiganHottay14 (talk) 20:47, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
According to the article for the Buddy Dean Show, Waters, as a teen, appeared as a dancer on the show. Is this correct? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ghosts&empties (talk • contribs) 22:57, 27 July 2006.
No, I'd say not. He watched the show religiously as child (He covers his love affair with the program exstensivly in his memoir "Shock Value"). I Just Kissed Al Pacino
Quotes
No quotes? I wanted to check if this was the guy who said: I want people to leave the theatre throwing up (or something like that). Added later: he did indeed say something like that. Fwend 21:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
speaking of quotes, I wanted to add that he said "I love the elitism of the art world. Art for the people is a terrible idea" in the documentary Guest of Cindy Sherman (for which, see imdb page) but there wasn't a place to put it. 207.237.117.50 (talk) 02:59, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Rating explanations?
Why is every film paired with it's MPAA rating and explanation? I know with his subject matter, it is interesting to see what the MPAA does, but it's not consistent with any other pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.222.18.113 (talk) 15:21, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Gay?
It doesn't mention anywhere that he is gay -I presume he is (is he?) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by user 141.168.109.63 (talk • contribs) 08:52, 23 August 2006.

- Mr Waters is bisexual and he is quite open about it. His films are not just "trashy," they are queer. It doesn't get any more queer than JW.

- he is gay, and he is not in the closet. he is not bi.

thanks for clearing that up ... I was not sure how he identified ... --Kelt65 13:27, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
John Waters is a gay man and a camp queen. I've never heard him ever identify as being bisexual.71.162.251.245 (talk) 11:27, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Redundancy
I deleted the sentence " Fruitcake is Waters' next film. Production is due to begin in the fall of 2008.[1]" because it is stated in a previous one that filming began in january of 2008.
Fruitcake film?
The filmography lists a 2007 film called Fruitcake, but it isn't listed in IMDB and a quick check on Google didn't turn anything up. Is there any info about this, or should it be deleted? --24.84.39.132 05:02, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Then it looks like vandalism... Especially based on the fact that he's only credited as 'writer' and not 'director'. If this is real film (which I doubt) I'd like to see evidence of it from a reliable source before it makes its way into this article...Donwithnoname
This fansite http://www.dreamlandnews.com/news/index.shtml has a link to a Baltimore Sun article in which Waters himself mentions Fruitcake and describes it as a Christmas adventure for kids. Davi Williams 04:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I think it best not to list under his filmography, but rather mention it under the "Other Work" section. He certainly has exspressed an interest in the project. I Just Kissed Al Pacino August 12 2007
This discussion was a while ago so I don't know if this is still relevent but I saw John Waters' one man show This Filthy World in late 2009 and he did talk about Fruitcake for a while. It's definitely real, though I can't provide any sort of citation since this is just something I saw for myself. Just wanted to confirm that at least as of then this movie was still existing in some form or fashion, although I do think the details are far too vague to really mention it in this article. 74.141.107.90 (talk) 01:33, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Red links
This article included an excessive number of red links to very unnotable people and things; I've removed them. PAWiki 13:55, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Books?
I am quite certain that Waters authored a book entitled, "Pink Flamingos; a Tasteful Book About Bad Taste." I remember reading it, but I don't know what ever became of my copy. Does anyone else remember that book? Were there any others?--W8IMP 03:35, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- You're thinkink of "Shock Value: A Tasteful Book About Bad Taste". Davi Williams 01:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
"No Smoking" ad - Other Work Section
s the detailed synopsis of the "No Smoking" ad really necessary? It isn't exactly well written or coherent. Even if it were to be re-written it just feels a bit excessive. I've removed it. If anyone feels it was detrimental to the article please do what you feel is right. I Just Kissed Al Pacino August 12 2007
just saw a show called Jessica the Hippo on Animal Planet is was narrated by John Waters.
Channing
Does anybody know where I can get bio info on Channing Wilroy, at least birthdate for an article. Mike P (WHAT?) 21:51, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Move to plain John Waters?
- There is talk about moving page John Waters (filmmaker) to plain John Waters, and the existing John Waters to John Waters (disambiguation). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:14, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- How dominant is he above the other men named John Waters? The current plan to move this page is the first time I heard of him. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:19, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
The biographer who wrote "Filthy" spells his name Robrt, not Robert. See amazon for conformation. http://www.amazon.com/Filthy-Weird-World-John-Waters/dp/1555836259 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.247.166.32 (talk) 15:49, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Move to mainstream
Any particular reason why this section includes a list of alliterated character names? I'll remove them for now. Calindreams (talk) 08:36, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Bad Taste
- When I read this article (I hate to admit it, but I am a fan of some of JW´s work) I thought it strange that no mention is made about his motivation. John Waters is determined to have a discussion about taste. In his opinion bad taste is not bad taste if you package it correctly. Although his interest in the Manson Family is a bit beyond me.
- When he was interviewed for British television he wore a jacket made from shag pile carpet. It made me read Shock Value and Crackpot. Books I can recommend if you have a sense of humor.
- In Boston Legal, Alan Shore and Denny Crane dress up as pink flamingoes, is this a reference?
Alan Wendl
He's been in many of Waters' films, he should be included in the chart of the recurring cast members please, thanks. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0920863 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.119.22.212 (talk) 20:30, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Pencil-thin moustache
The article states, "He is recognizable by his trademark pencil-thin moustache, a look he has retained since the early 1970s.", and then two of the three pictures in the article show him san moustache. Anybody know if he has grown it back? If not then the lead should be updated. HairyWombat 21:27, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- I think the tashe is so very thin that you have to expand the image to really see it. Span (talk) 21:30, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I see it now. It is a lot thiner in the two 2007 images than in the third (undated) image. I guess he trimmed it. HairyWombat 03:50, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Proposed page move to John Waters (writer/director)
Per a discussion at the somewhat clunky-titled Talk:John Waters (1934 Academy Award winner), I propose we move that page to John Waters (director) and our guy from Baltimore to John Waters (writer/director), as he wrote every film he made, and keep a hatnote on both. That's probably the least verbose, most accurate way to solve the DAB issue. "Director" is preferred over "filmmaker", as seen at the recently moved Walter Hill (director), most other WP director articles, and a recent discussion at WT:FILM on the Hill move.
I believe my first WP page move nearly two years ago was at Don Taylor - that's the DAB page. Two directors had that name. I moved the better-known to Don Taylor (actor/director). He was also an actor, but the previous page title made it sound like he was only an actor. Using the WP search box drop down a reader would get Don Taylor (director) with no alternative. It's true readers can probably figure out who they want at the DAB page, but I believe they should have a good shot of determining it from the search box drop down as well. Once this proposed move is done, John Waters (writer/director) would show up as higher-placed in the drop down because it gets the most hits. - Gothicfilm (talk) 20:38, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- This is not sufficient disambiguation, as they are both directors, so "John Waters (director)" can equally apply to either. Per WP:NCPDAB, article should be moved to John Waters (director born 1946). --Rob Sinden (talk) 14:06, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Only one John Waters is also a writer. WP:NCPDAB gives as an example
- James Stephen Smith and Steve Smith (ice hockey) (two ice hockey defensemen born in 1963 called Steve Smith)
even though Steve Smith (ice hockey) could apply to either one. But if others prefer John Waters (director born 1946) over John Waters (writer/director), I'll go with it. - Gothicfilm (talk) 15:54, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, based on page view stats which I just added to Talk:John Waters (disambiguation), this article is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the name "John Waters", and has been moved accordingly. —Darkwind (talk) 06:38, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Work in Progress section
Being that his new book Carsick has been out for several months now, the "work in progress" section of this page is more or less redundant --Jackbel (talk) 06:19, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Feelings about Pink Flamingos?
In his book, Trash Trio: Three Screenplays: Pink Flamingos, Desperate Living, Flamingos Forever, what are Mr Water's feelings regarding the Pink Flamingos film? In 2007, I spoke to him in a crowed movie theater lobby on Cape Cod in Wellfleet. I was the only person to recognize him, so had him all to myself. I told him how much I enjoyed his films of the ones I'd seen. He asked if I saw Pink Flamingos. When I said no, he firmly told me not to; that he was tripping during the whole project and it turned out really badly. He seemed quite embarrassed by it on that night. Does the book corroborate that self- assessment? Thank you for your time, Wordreader (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Chicago Illinois. _ Big Chicks Bar. Uptown Neighborhood
Good evening John, writing from my home state of Wisconsin. This evening I was in touch with the big chicks bar about something more personal. When I reviewed some of the photos and I used to live near that bar it made me think about you. Do you ever get over to Chicago? If and when you do go to Chicago,. I heartily recommend visiting this place. Thank you for reading this. Marti 24.240.88.36 (talk) 04:12, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
John Waters and Divine
I haven't been there for a couple years. For all I know there is a large format photo of the two of them on the bar wall.
The owner Michelle has a specific affinity for art photographs.
If I'm not mistaken I believe she has a Diane Arbus on the wall.... 24.240.88.36 (talk) 04:20, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
No pictures with Divine?
Given the importance of Waters' artistic relationship with Divine, it's odd there are no pictures of them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidxcrowe (talk • contribs) 14:15, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
