March redirect deletion edit

You speedily deleted a JPatrickBedell redirect with R3, but there's a number of reliable sources that mention it. Can I repost the redirect, or if controversial, where would the discussion be? Galatee (talk) 17:02, 9 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Galatee, I don't see a link to the page that I deleted, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPatrickBedell from any of those reports. Google suggests that no webpages link to that page. People do link to his userpage, User:JPatrickBedell, which is still here on Wikipedia (and the first hit if you search for that username).

Thank you, Sj. While there are no links to JPatrickBedell, numerous reliable sources mention it, and I think some (like me) will search Wikipedia for it to see if we have anything on the username, before searching for his full name. Only those very familiar with Wikipedia will prefix it with User:, and even I didn't until later. I think JPatrickBedell should redirect to 2010 Pentagon shooting. While it doesn't appear in the article, it obviously means John Patrick Bedell, his Wikipedia connection *is* mentioned in the article, and as I said, it's mentioned by numerous reliable sources as linked to the shooting. I don't think JPatrickBedell needs to appear in the article, but it would be a navigational aid as a redirect. Galatee (talk) 18:44, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
If you search for JPatrickBedell, the userpage shows up first. How else did you search for it? SJ+ 22:59, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Actually, for me it says "There were no results matching the query." because there's no article with his username. It's only if I click Everything, or Advanced and check the User: checkbox, that I find his userpage. You've probably set your search preferences to search other namespaces. The default is Article space only.
But I don't think it should redirect to his userpage (which would be a cross-namespace redirect anyway). I think it should redirect to the Pentagon shooting article, because news reports mention his username in the context of the shooting. Galatee (talk) 03:31, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the catch. You are right, that people mention just his username (and many random visitors won't understand what our namespaces are like). I have no problem with the rdr restoration. SJ+ 21:04, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
