Surname was Power or O'Connor Power ? edit

This article started with the surname as Power, was changed to O'Connor Power and now back to Power. I've found him indexed under both surnames in books. Does anybody have a definitive authority on this ?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Rcbutcher (talk • contribs)

Well, both the National Library of Ireland and the British Library index him as Power, John O'Connor. In addition, his father's name was Power, which given normal social and legal conventions, would mean that his surname should also be Power.--Damac 06:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree to his being indexed under Power but see no problem in using both forms in the article, as his contemporaries did.

Moriarty Unmasked: Conan Doyle and an Anglo-Irish Quarrel, Jane Stanford, Carrowmore, 2017, is a spin-off of That Irishman, the biography of O'Connor Power, where the Fenian leader is identified as an inspiration for Sherlock Holmes' arch-enemy, Professor Moriarty. The appearances of Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes stories mark significant landmarks in legislative measures on the path to Ireland's independence'

O’Connor Power was a guest speaker at the Durham Miners Gala in 1876.
