I agree that the address for John Muir Birthplace should be shown as 126 High Street. Throughout the refurbishment, JMBT and JMT used 128 (see http://www.djma.org.uk/appeal/leaflet.html and http://www.djma.org.uk/jmd/walk04.html). I see that East Lothian Council (http://www.eastlothian.gov.uk/content/0,1094,714,00.html) and JMBT (http://www.jmbt.org.uk/) now use 126. For the postcode, Royal Mail show 126 as JMBT, then 128a, 130 ... , but no 128.

Remember that in 1842 (when John was 4) the Muir family moved to the substantial building that is now numbered 130 - 134 High Street (http://www.djma.org.uk/jmd/walk05.html)

Re the Birthplace: the original 1980-1 museum was in the top floor flat, numbered 128; the purchase and redevelopment of the entire building by the JMBT meant both flats (properly 128a and b) were subsumed into the new layout; the shopfront, always numbered 126 is now the correct and only address. Further, John Muir left the building as 'a babe in arms' - a matter of months after his birth.
