What is a Senior Advisor Delegated Deputy Secretary? He's either the Deputy Secretary or not. If he's an interim, he can't succeed to the full Secretaryship without confirmation by Congress. 66.67.32.161 (talk) 19:22, 2 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

This page is terribly imbalanced - it reads like a press release. The manner in which he implemented Common Core standards in NY, his acceleration of the number of tests students take, and the manner in which he implemented teacher evaluation rules were all heavily criticized by various groups.

Dismantling SUNY

edit

I'm adding a note here to start documenting how John King is dismantling the SUNY system. The NYS legislature gave SUNY $189 million for distressed campuses and King withheld the funds, manufacturing a deficit crisis, for the purpose of trying to close campuses. Governor Hochul was funding SUNY in support of the the wishes of NYS taxpayers and King allocated the money to campuses which did not have deficits in order to make it appear like the struggling campuses were at fault. He has partnered with Merryl Tisch to dismantle SUNY in a deceptive manner. NYS education law dictates the number of campuses in the system. Instead of changing the law, he is withholding funds in an attempt to reduce the number of public colleges in NYS. I'm going to collect the news articles and write the section with describes how this duo is systemically destroying the largest public college system in the nation, against the wishes of the governor, legislature and the taxpayers of NYS. US Dept of Ed Controveries

edit

King was forced to step down as the head of the Dept of Education. A section needs to be added documenting his incompetence in this role. https://www.chalkbeat.org/newyork/2014/12/10/21092112/after-turbulent-tenure-state-ed-commissioner-john-king-stepping-down-for-federal-ed-job/

“The disconnect between the commissioner’s vision and what parents, educators and students want for their public education system became so great, NYSUT voted ‘no confidence’ in Commissioner King last spring and called for his resignation,” the New York State United Teachers said in a statement Wednesday, adding that it hoped King “has learned from his stormy tenure in New York.”

He is literally doing the exact same thing to SUNY. If he doesn't believe in public education, he really has no business "leading" it. Wondawomyn (talk) 02:31, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
