Untitled section

"Because they were on their way home, and Mrs. Astor had conceived during their honeymoon abroad, no provision for the unborn child was made in his already set will."

Is that actually correct? My impression was that marriage nullified previous wills (unless made in contemplation of a forthcoming marriage). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.78.64.102 (talk) 10:01, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Marriage does not nullify anything; a will generally trumps marital status.204.126.251.245 (talk) 16:02, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Law is complicated, and absolute answers are usually wrong or at least subject to exceptions. I've added a link to the WP article on pretermitted heirs. However, citations would improve both that article and this one.TVC 15 (talk) 23:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

John Jacob Astor VI?

Why is the father IV & the son VI? Shouldn't this article be John Jacob Astor V? GoodDay (talk) 03:19, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

He is VI because John Jacob Astor IV's cousin William Waldorf Astor already had a son named John Jacob Astor V (born 1886). XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 06:51, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
