I think one of the more interesting things about the West Wing is the relationship between characters and real-life politicians. An entire article could be written on the comparison between Bartlet and real-life presidents, particularly President Clinton. But it might be best to start off small, with someone like Hoynes, but I wanted to know how others thought about this, and what real-life comparisons we wanted to make.

The closest comparison for Hoynes that I can think of is Lyndon Johnson. As powerful democrats from Texas, both were chosen by liberal intellectuals from New England as vice president. Neither got along well with the presidents they served for. Both were tough, experienced, and skilled politicans. While Hoynes never takes over for Bartlet, there are instances where he nearly does, and until his scandal, he is the presumptive successor.

I'd agree about the Hoynes-Johnson comparison. However, he also bares some resemblance to Bill Clinton, in that he is a southern, moderate DLC Democrat who has had multiple sex scandals. Then again, you can more directly compare Bartlet to Clinton, not in terms of background or ideology but in terms of the events that befall his presidency/administration (the Lewinsky Scandal-esque MS Scandal, the Rwanda-esque Kundu crisis, the Shutdown etc). Unfortunately, all this is speculation and can't go in the article itself. EJB341 (talk) 18:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

"She later told him that if he smeared her reputation in his new book, she would hit back at him by appearing with all the other women he had propositioned in spite of being married. To her great relief, his book did not mention their one-night stand at all." This should be changed as CJ did not threaten him with the other women if he smeared her reputation, she threatened him with her reputation if he smeared the other women.

Episode 5.15 CJ: When you run for President, the press is going to find some of those women. And if you try to attack them, if you get your opposition research team working on them, if you try to destroy them, if you try to say they're all bimbos and liars, then I'll be standing right there with them and I'll be ready to take anything you or your people throw at me, anything. So don't make me tell the truth about you because it will be the whole truth." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.233.78.52 (talk) 00:29, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Three years worth of objections

At the top of the article are three objections from 2009: in universe, no citations and too lengthy. These apparently have never been addressed and therefore the article should be cut while respecting the discussion to keep or delete it.Catherinejarvis (talk) 22:03, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
