So why did he stand in Buckinghamshire, being from a squirearchical family in Cambridgeshire? Answer seems to be land held in Leckhampstead, Buckinghamshire. See [1]. Nothing yet about the military career. Charles Matthews (talk) 16:15, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Small snippet reads "he died in 1846 and was replaced by John Hall, a Lieut Colonel in the 1st Life Guards, who represented the borough until the dissolution of Parliament in 1859". Tassedethe (talk) 16:53, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

More info. From London Gazette[2] "Lieutenant-General John Hall to be Colonel, vice General William Pattle, C.B., deceased. Dated 10th February, 1865." I think Colonel must mean Colonel in Chief (or similar) as Lt Gen is a higher rank. More info[3]. To confirm its the same person (maybe). Snippet from google books[4] (can't see all text) "General John Hall, Colonel of the 19th Hussars, died on May 5, aged 73", United Service magazine 1872. Dates match.
