He considered himself to be of Irish descent, as did his contemporaries in Ireland and the U.S. Against this is a bit of pure original research apparently DNA furnished by a descendant, with the test result presented here as a reference. That does not meet the Wikipedia standard of a reliable source, since it is a primary document and has not been published in a reliable secondary source where its accuracy can be checked. The speculation of non-Irish ancestry thus not verified and should be removed. Edison (talk) 17:10, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
