The author of the work so entirely quoted in this biography - so steeped as it is in Victorian-era, jealous disapproval that it must be verbatim - really needs to be identified. It appears to be the work of Thomas Finlayson Henderson quoted at Wikisource (from the Dictionary of National Biography) rather than that of 'Leslie Stephen' (given as the editor).
