The picture is good and there is some useful content. However, the organization has to be drastically redone. The article is supposed to be a bio, but including a Curriculum vitae makes it a resumé. The lists are overwhelming and far too detailed and placed in the middle of the article, which seriously hinders the flow. The whole obituary by his wife has to go, per WP:NOTMEMORIAL. The article style is unencylopedic from the start ("but will always be know to his many friends and colleagues as Jack") and needs to be reworked in a neutral manner. The last sections are the actual bio, they belong to the top and the curriculum vitae has to be incorporated into them. The quotations belong on WikiQuote. Finally, the reference section needs to be placed above the external links section and articles are not supposed to have notes directed at viewers - these belong on the talk page. I removed the obituary. It is not gone, but doesn't exist anymore in the current revision. It can be recovered by looking at an older version of the page, for example this one. I also removed the notes. Here they are:

Heker, Thank you for you suggestions on editing changes. I absolutely agree that the content needs to be reorganized which I was planning to do once sufficient background information had been recovered. I now have the complete “curriculum vitae” for Dr. Eddy through 2007 which is when he was first diagnosed with cancer. With the exception of one new book for NASA, he did not do too much writing after that. It has been common practice for the last several hundred years to make available a “curriculum vitae” for distinguished scientists upon their death. In this context, it is not a document for a job seeker but the summation of a life’s work. If Wikipedia is not the correct location for such a document, let me fist complete the update in my sandbox and then post the revised material back to the primary page for Dr. Eddy for discussion.

When going through some of Dr. Eddy’s materials which are available on line, I discovered that to save paper Dr. Eddy had some documents printed on both sides of a paper page. Unfortunately when these paper documents were scanned for archiving, only one side of the page was scanned and half the content was lost. The responsible agencies have been notified and I can only hope that they are motivated to recover the original documents if it is not too late. This is why I want to find a safe home for the complete “curriculum vitae”. As others add to Dr. Eddy’s Wikipedia page it was my hope that the “curriculum vitae” would serve as a reference to other source materials. Let me get the all of the material together so that we can better discuss its future home.

Following your suggestion I looked at the page on Charles Darwin for style pointers and will endeavor to use it as an example for the future revisions. The short term goal is to create a respectable base document which others can add to at a later time.

I have style question for you. Would it be permissible to move the “curriculum vitae” to a sub-directory with the following URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_A._Eddy/Curriculum_Vitae

In this way it could be referenced and available to other researches without cluttering up the main Wikipedia page on Dr. Eddy.

The article space does not permit subpages. You can put all this material on a subpage of your userspace, like User:Michael Ronayne/Curriculum Vitae (which you can create) or whatever name you want. In this way you don't clutter Wikipedia and can save all the material you need to improve the article Wikipedia in your userspace. Hekerui (talk) 05:29, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Eddy didn't name the Maunder Minimum

The name "Maunder Minimum" was in common use at least in 1975, as demonstrated here. I propose to edit the page to reflect this. Anyone care to argue against this? Jdannan (talk) 01:03, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Jack was using the term prior to 1973, his departure from his job then enabled him to do more historical research, but he'd already been using the term in his lectures to his students years prior.64.167.16.142 (talk) 01:31, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
