So is he dead? edit

There have been two IPs today, from completely different ranges, that said he died yesterday April 24th. However, I can't find a reliable source for this (or any source for that matter). What's the deal? --Jaysweet (talk) 20:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, somebody came in with a NYT obit a few hours after I asked. Sorry to be a rules stickler at such a sensitive time. Rest in peace. --Jaysweet (talk) 17:25, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Family name, spelling and pronunciation edit

The Italian family name of his father is Giuffrè, with the tonic accent being on the last syllable and the E being open (of the two variants of E that there are in Italian, the one more erring towards A rather than I), aka [dʒufˈfrɛ] as it's presented in the opening paragraph. However, Jimmy Giuffre gets his name spelled without an accent in the US, and that's how he's known in Italy as well, so it's instead pronounced with the tonic accent on U, and a closed E, closer to I. That's more akin to [dʒu:fˈfre]

That's why I corrected the father's name to include an accent, but only the father's. 62.11.163.60 (talk) 20:33, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Oops I meant ['dʒuffre] for the modern, American-derived Italian pronunciation. I wasn't too good with IPA standards back then.62.11.169.35 (talk) 12:25, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
