World War II service edit
The only ref found so far for service in World War II is that Ensign Van Gorkom, Jerome W. is listed on the "List of Nonenlisted Passengers of U.S.S. West Point at date of sailing from San Francisco for redacted, Date January 11, 1944", page 2. According to Wikipedia, the U.S.S. West Point (AP-23) set sail on January 12, 1944 for Guadalcanal. It is unknown if Van Gorkom stayed aboard the West Point for this entire journey, or if he had any role in World War II other than serving during that period.
