Posthumous Oscar nomination edit

I'm fairly sure the only posthumous Oscar nominees in acting categories were Jeanne Eagels, James Dean, Spencer Tracy, Peter Finch, Sir Ralph Richardson and Massimo Troisi, of whom the only winner was Peter Finch.

This would make Jeanne Eagels the only woman ever nominated posthumously for an acting Oscar. Can anyone confirm this before I put it into the article? -- JackofOz (talk) 07:37, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It seems to be true. Many sites confirm there have been only 6 such nominations, and this lists them. -- JackofOz (talk) 12:08, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re this edit: there seems to be a little confusion. As List of posthumous Academy Award winners and nominees reveals, Jeanne Eagels had 2 claims to posthumous Oscar fame:

  • she was the first woman to ever be nominated/considered for an Oscar in any competitive category (and still only one of 5 women posthumously nominated out of a total of 70 such nominations), and
  • she was the first person, and still the only woman, to be nominated/considered for an Oscar in an acting category (Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress). -- JackofOz (talk) 04:18, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth/death and age of death do not match. edit

1900 and 1910 Censuses for Missouri give her birth year as 1891 and 1889. On the June 4,1900, the Census lists her a being 8 years old and turning 9 at the end of the month, but the enumerator botched her birth year up. It states that her birth name is "Eugenia" and not Amelia. It also states that she was born in Missouri.Go take a look at ancestry.com. Stutzey (talk) 18:32, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sometimes the ages on the Censuses of off a bit. Her accepted birth year is 1890. I am going back to the 1900 Census which gives her correct parents names, and the 1910 Census under the Eugenia name gives her occupation as "actress". She was probably 39 or 40 years old when she passed away.Stutzey (talk) 19:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have been doing research for over 20 years in genealogy. I have credible resources. How can you change everything back when two United States Federal Censuses back my information? She was not born in Boston or in 1894. It states Missouri as her birth state, and several newspaper articles also state that. Massachusetts was a story that Eagels made up to sound more sophisticated. I have verifiable information and I always research it thoroughly. I have newspaper articles to back up who her family was and their correct names. The 1900 and 1910 Censuses show that she was not born in 1894. Look at the Census information.Stutzey (talk) 11:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wedding Date for Edward W. Eagles and Julia Sullivan:

Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002 about Edward W Eagles Name: Edward W Eagles Marriage Date: 26 Apr 1886 Marriage Location: Platte City, Platte, Missouri Marriage County: Platte Spouse Name: Miss. Julia Sullivan

Please refrain from changing her parent's marriage date when I can view the actual marriage certificate on Ancestry.com. I sent all of my research to imdb.com, and it was changed.
