I am curious of why the image that the article shows is in black and white. It is the usual way of displaying it. The color image clearly shows that the flags in the ship are fake, they have been repainted to hide what is underneath.

See: http://www.rubicon2004.org/img/barconormando.gif http://th2001.asterix.free.fr/Enigme34/Soluce/canari.jpg

These flags are unknown or nonexisting, a product of the imagination of the painter. Is it possible to see the actual flags under the repainted ones? The re-painter was trying to hide something. There is another drawing of Bethencourt returning to explain his conquests to the king of Castille, they say. But Castille had no king at that time. Which king is the one shown?

Conversion to Islam and return to France edit

Jean de Béthencourt converted to Islam while away from France, and married a West African women whom he took to France upon his return.

How could he get away with being a Muslim in France? Did he conceal his conversion upon his return? Also, who continued to govern the islands upon his return? Top.Squark (talk) 19:16, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

No sense about this matter, Bethencourt went to Europe after the conquest and there is no evidence about his conversion.--Bentaguayre (talk) 16:35, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
