Proposed rewrite of draft article

edit

I have taken the liberty of doing a rewrite/restructuring of the current draft for Jean Vigoureux article.

I am not an administrator, just another Wikipedia contributor, so any (or all) of my changes can be undone. But I think the draft really needed a rewrite. Please see what you think.

(I am a Vigoureux fan myself, owning a copy of Twenty-Eight Paintings of Paris and also the Buddha with broken arm painting. (Though I have second thoughts, that this image may be a warrior, not Buddha. I have not found a matching image in photos of Angkor, but am trying to track that down. I was stunned to see that same ruined figure in one of the Indochina drawings! I have also done a lot of work on the Wikipedia articles for Jean's father, in French, and for his brother, Fernand. A truly fascinating family.)

I just happened to come across the Vigoureux images recently uploaded at Wikimedia Commons, which led me to this draft page. I have long wanted to see a Jean Vigoureux article at Wikipedia, and I am thrilled that this is happening.

Regarding rewrite: I have tried to put things in a more coherent chronological order. This involved moving information, not cutting it.

I trimmed a lot from the press clippings, many of which were being quoted verbatim, even when this meant repeating dates and gallery locations of exhibits, etc. There was a lot of redundancy to be trimmed. For instance, if the date of an article is in the footnote, there is no need to include the date of article in the text, also. Also I trimmed the quotes themselves. Including every bit of text in a review or newspaper mention is great for a scrapbook or family ancestry page, but quotes should be much for concise for an encyclopedia article.

I introduced div html to make the two long lists take up less screen space, without losing any information. You simply have to scroll down the list within the box.

I moved the images into galleries within each section, so they now appear in the order in which they appear in the text, and are easier for the reader to reference.

I cleaned up the footnotes a bit, and added some information that was not here (such as Jean's wife's doctoral thesis, published as a book).

In general, I have tried to introduce stylistic and grammatical consistency. I have been a professional writer for many years, working in magazine industry and publishing many novels, so I have quite a bit of experience at this.

So I hope you will approve this rewrite. But if not, you can instantly revert back to the previous draft by clicking "Undo" at the Revision history page. Or just make changes here and there if the rewrite is mostly acceptable to you.

In any event, I look forward to seeing this article approved and up at Wikipedia! -- Stevensaylor (talk) 01:29, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
