Date of birth

edit

Darboux's birth certificate says it's 14th August, 1842. But he himself usually reports it as 13th August.

See this form for Légion d'Honneur, filled by himself: http://www2.culture.gouv.fr/LH/LH060/PG/FRDAFAN83_OL0658046V032.htm

And a copy of his birth certificate: http://www2.culture.gouv.fr/LH/LH060/PG/FRDAFAN83_OL0658046V041.htm

Should we mention this in the main Wikipedia page?

(Also wondering the reason for this discrepancy.)

                                              • UPDATE**************************

The discrepancy is mainly due to the fact that he was born in midnight... 1 o'clock in the morning of 14 August as written on the birth certificate.

I have edited in the main page already. Noradxxx (talk) 11:49, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Separating life and work

edit

Looking for possible ways to do this...

We should make the page less of a stub :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noradxxx (talkcontribs) 16:49, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Bulletin des sciences mathématiques

edit

The current version cites the Bulletin des sciences mathématiques et astronomique and links its publishing house elsevier. Their "open archive" dates back to 1998.

The Internet archive links the original 1870 volume and possibly the full collection for free. The original name was Bulletin des sciences mathématiques, as it is also implictly indicated by the URL in Elsevier website. The editorial board was formed by Paul Émile Appell, Émile Borel, Jacques Hadamard and Amedeo Guillet. The publishing house was the Henry Gauthier-Villars et Cle Éditeurs, located in Paris. It can be hopefully cited in the WP article.Philosopher81sp (talk) 22:53, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
