1915 to 1923

edit

We're missing a lot of years there. Can anyone find what she was doing? -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:55, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'll see what I can find. Thank you so much for expanding this piece; you've done much more than I could have. I'm especially delighted with the picture. A few questions: 1) While I have really been enjoying the Stage Beauty website (and wonder if they'll ever turn up a picture of my great-grandmother, who was a music-hall performer), how confident are we that it is a reliable source, and accurately reproduces the newspaper stories that it quotes? 2) Do you think the article is now long enough that some more of the personal details from the newspaper coverage of Aylwin and Rawlinson's divorce could be included? Thanks again - this was my first ever article. AlexTiefling (talk) 10:11, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
OK, I've added all the significant appearances I've been able to track down, including an isolated post-retirement radio broadcast. I've also fleshed out the divorce story; there are other papers covering this, but the one I've cited is the most complete. It appears she was temporarily retired 1920-23, as the divorce story mentions her returning to the stage for Polly; I've amended the text to reflect this, but I can't find an exact start date for the hiatus. I've also found image, but I don't know if it's high-enough quality to use in the article. AlexTiefling (talk) 12:42, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your great work on the article so far. Replies: 1) The site is edited by Don Gillan who obviously has done very significant research for it. Whether it would be accepted as a WP:Reliable source at FAC I do not know, but I think probably so. I have never found his transcriptions of press notices to have a substantial error, and his own articles on the site are certainly of interest. More research would be needed to make a case for the site's reliability, but it should be done, I think, because it is one of the most useful sites on the internet for information about Victorian and Edwardian actresses and the theatre of the day. 2) The details that are included in any WP article should be of "encyclopedic interest". That is, they should be the most important ones for a reader to understand the subject. So, the details of a divorce should generally be kept to a minimum, and the article should focus on what was most important about the person's career and why they were famous. Even a very famous celebrity divorce, like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, should only get a brief mention in their bios. Note that this article is missing all information about Aylwin's parents, siblings, childhood, etc. Did she ever have any children? Finally, I don't think that the Havana image is very clear or adds much. If we add any other images, they should add something more to the article. Maybe something from her later career or life, or if she was on the cover of a magazine with her fashion innovation. The article is a very good start. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:04, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
