Openly Gay? edit

Is this a good description? She married a man, who many years later transitioned to a woman. Rather than divorce, she then declared she was bi. I'm not exactly sure this makes her gay in any real sense. The article on Louise Pratt, for example, calls her a lesbian, but she was partnered with a trans man - which by this analysis makes her either heterosexual or bi. But her article does not describe her as such, and she apparently doesn't identify as such. Considering she didn't identify as gay prior to her husband transitioning to being a wife, I feel that it would be more accurate to replace "is one of eight current openly-gay members in the Parliament of Australia" to something like "was married to climatologist Helen Whetton from prior to her transition to a woman until her death", since she seems to only have identified as bi to support her ongoing relationship. The source material says she was unaware of Whetton's cross-dressing and leanings when they married and for years after. Staying married to someone with whom you've lived for years, and are raising two boys with is not the same as seeking a new relationship with someone of the same sex. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.177.231.252 (talk) 06:40, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
