When did she enrol at the Slade School? edit

"In 1959 Janet Dawson won the lithography prize at the Slade School of Fine Arts, London University. She had enrolled there in 1956 at the age of 21 after winning the National Gallery of Victoria Travelling Scholarship." (Source NGA (1))

But "Dawson travelled to London in 1958 to take up the scholarship at the Slade School of Fine Art in 1959." (According to NGA2). I am hoping someone can resolve this apparent difference. MargaretRDonald (talk) 03:29, 13 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Janet Dawson was awarded the National Gallery School scholarship on 19.12.56 (she was the sole recipient not joint winner, as stated in the Wikipedia article). She left Melbourne on 17.5.57 on the Roma. She commenced at the Slade School on 1.10.57 and studied there for 2 years. I have documentary letters confirming these dates. I hope this helps, John Landt 58.109.248.81 (talk) 20:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you John for that very helpful detail. McCulloch also has 1957-58 for her dates at the Slade, all in accord with contemporary newspaper articles. Jamesmcardle(talk) 02:23, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I hope this reply works and is not just to a bot. I have now contacted Charles Nodrum Gallery who represent Janet Dawson and they assure me that they will be able to obtain her permission for the use of the image which any is already in the public domain at the National Portrait Gallery website. Here is their reply;
"Thank you for your email – and for taking the time to update Janet Dawson’s Wikipedia page.  She visited the gallery last week [...] So your email is timely and appreciated. Janet is getting on now and a little tricky to get in contact with.  As Janet’s representative gallery in Melbourne, Charles and I are confident Janet will approve of your use of her self-portrait for the Wikipedia page.  So if this email is enough for you to go with, please do go ahead. John is due to see Janet next week, so can run all of this past her then too, and if Janet has any concerns – which we highly doubt she will – we can let you know straight away."
I will send them the CC release for Janet to sign. Please do not delete the image in the meantime. Thank you Jamesmcardle(talk) 06:28, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
