Shouldn't it be "Jan Smuts in the South African Union "? His whole career it was a Union. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 41.242.235.114 (talk) 10:36, August 22, 2007 (UTC)

This article is about Smuts's life from 1895 to 1899, when he was the State Attorney of the Transvaal - or the South African Republic as it was also known. The Union of South Africa, which I take it is what you have in mind, was formed in 1910 and is therefore outwith the scope of this article.
