Does anyone know if Richard Woolsey from stargate based on this guy? Someone brought it up on his discussion so I thought Id bring it up here so if it was it could be mentioned in this article if he was.Irate velociraptor 04:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Contradictory

This article states that Woolsey is a conservative Democrat, then goes on in the categories section to state that he's a neoconservative. Since he's a member of the Project for a New American Century, I really don't know either way what his political leanings are.

Being traditionally Democratic on social and economic issues but being hawkish on foreign policy doesn't make you a neocon...if that's what we use to decide if someone's a neocon or not, then Bill Clinton is one. 1ne 03:20, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Being a member of the Project for a New American Century means being neoconservative, no? Since the article provided no evidence for him being a general conservative, but did provide evidence that he's associated with a neoconservative organization and arguing for neoconservative positions, I changed "conservative" in the first sentence to "neoconservative". It would be very helpful to know more about his foreign policy positions and tenure as CIA director to judge this. Maybe the National Security Archive has more info about this? He is more liberal on some environmental issues. Anyway he does identify as a "Scoop Jackson Democrat"[1] whether the party wishes to claim him or not.--T. Anthony (talk) 09:29, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Soviet campaign against the Vatican

In a 2007 article, Ion Mihai Pacepa recalls how "In my other life, when I was at the center of Moscow's foreign-intelligence wars, I myself was caught up in a deliberate Kremlin effort to smear the Vatican, by portraying Pope Pius XII as a coldhearted Nazi sympathizer." A May 12, 2009 article published in the Jerusalem Post, which dealt with Pacepa’s claim, stated that “former CIA director James Woolsey has vouched for Pacepa's personal credibility. Pacepa's memoir ‘Red Horizons’ formed the basis for the indictment and conviction of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, who was executed in 1989.” A June 2009 article published in the American Catholic shows that new documents found in the Vatican archives also support Pacepa’s claim. Reasons for leaving role as Director of Central Intelligence

There are no details in this article as to why he left his role as Director. The article on Aldrich Ames (Russian CIA spy exposed during Woolsey's tenure) makes this statement:

'There was a "huge uproar" in Congress when CIA director James Woolsey decided that no one in the CIA would be dismissed or demoted at the agency. "Some have clamored for heads to roll in order that we could say that heads have rolled," Woolsey declared. "Sorry, that's not my way." Woolsey was forced to resign.[33]'
